History of the Black Mount Area
There is evidence of human habitation in the Black Mount area from the Neolithic period (between 4,000 BC and 2,200 BC) onwards. Subsequently, the route to the South of the Pentlands became an important thoroughfare, both in Roman times and later, and helped define the history of the region. The railways came to the area in the 19th century, but lasted less than 70 years.
