In 3 years we have printed
180,000 copies of Edges magazine. This year has been an exciting year
for our organisation. We have taken part in various radio programmes
and were recently featured on television. Young people have
an important role in our publication. We give them a platform to speak
out. Edges is the mouthpiece of T.H.O.M.A.S. Young people who have
made mistakes in the past can often find it difficult building a
future. Our aim is to provide motivation and encouragement.
In September one of our young people commenced studying at an
Oxford college. We provided him with an opportunity to leave his past
behind and have optimism for the future FREEDOM TO
DREAM Weheld our first conference at Manchester University on
Thursday 27th November 1997. One hundred delegates attended including
senior representatives from the police, probation, prision service and
other agencies. Three of the bishops of England and Wales also
participated in the conference. 'Freedon to Dream' focused
on the problems young people face, especially those who are wanting to
build new lives out of mistakes of the past. Drug addiction can change
your life overnight. Many young people who fall into this trap can
enter a nightmare leaving behind their dignity and resorting to
inhumane activity. Criminality can be the obvious way of functioning
each day to pay for their habits. With a criminal record accompanying
you, even when you put your past behind and start again, it can be
hard to find work and a future. |
