1999 is only the second season that the Club
has run an Under 16's League team. In previous years players from this age
group automatically moved up into the Senior section of the Club, but the
number of players now registered with the Club means that we can finally
complete our structure. This years intake, however have a lot to live up to, as
their predecessors in 1995/96 won the League after a closely fought campaign
with Sheffield Inter. So far things are looking good and a repeat looks to be
on the cards, Sheffield Inter are our main rivals for league and cup honours,
and are currently the only team to take any points from us this season.
Shaun Reeve (left) is
currently the Manager of the side, having moved up to this age group at the
start of this season. He is looking to build on the success that he enjoyed
with the Under 12's (1995 - 1997) and the Under 14's (1997 - 1999), when his
sides won 2 out of 3 League cup finals, were League Runners-up 3 times and
Champions once. As well as working with the Under 16's Shaun also assists with
the First team on matchdays, which helps to provide continuity between junior
and senior football.
Shaun's assistant Manager, Neil Smith
(right) has been persuaded to join the management team this season after a
number of years supporting from the touchline. He too is involved with the
Senior teams on matchday and has just completed an FA Junior Team Manager's
Award.
The team play on Saturday mornings at Queens Park Annexe in Chesterfield and
are sponsored by North Derbyshire TEC.
