Match Reports

The Centre originally began it's coaching programme in April 1999, after an 8 week trial for over 100 triallists. Since then many girls have graduated from the Centre to different levels of football. We are sure that they gained an enormous amount of both experience and knowledge from us and will watch their Senior careers with interest.

Lizzie Gomersall:
Lizzie GomersallSheffield based Lizzie was a tremendous character to have in any squad and unfortunately was only with us for 4 short months at the end of the 1999 season. She had a thirst for knowledge and was always striving to apply this in a game. A natural and decisive leader who plays her Club football in the Women's Premier League with Doncaster Belles.
1999 was a good year for Lizzie, as well as making the Centre of Excellence squad, she was also selected for the newly formed England Under 16's team.
She played in a Home International tournament in Ireland over Easter, and then captained the side against Scotland at Wembley in July. Incidently she scored the first goal in this game, thus becoming the first female junior international to do so at this venue. In August she was selected for an Under 18 training camp, and then in October was honoured by the Sheffield Schools Sports Association when she received the Chairmans Award for her contribution to Sport.

Lizzie has already achieved a lot in the game, it will be interesting to watch just how far she can go in the future.

Amy Redfern:
Amy RedfernAlthough Amy hails from the Rotherham area she joined Chesterfield Ladies in 1995. After being selected for the Centre of Excellence in 1999 her game and confidence improved enormously so that by the end of the season she was becoming a regular in the Chesterfield Ladies 1st team which plays in the Midlands Combination League. After a superb performance at the Centre of Excellence tournament in June 1999 Amy caught the eye of the Hope Powell the England National team manager and was invited to attend the Under 16 Summer training camp at Loughborough in August 1999. Although she didn't make the final squad she was invited back to the 2000 camp as an Under 18.

An aggresive two footed player with good vision and a full range of passes, Amy established herself in the centre of Chesterfield's midfield. At the start of 2000/2001 she won a scholarship at Durham Academy and now combines her studies with daily coaching and playing.

Leanne Haslam:
Leanne HaslamMansfield based Leanne came to the attention of the Centre through her selection for the Nottinghamshire Schools U16 squad, as well as her performances for Mansfield Town Ladies in the Midlands Combination during 1998/99. She sailed through the Centre's trials and rapidly established herself as a hard working attacking midfielder. Her attitude to training is first class and she should be an asset to any Club.

In the Summer 1999 she joined Mansfield's local rivals Chesterfield in the hope that further coaching and development would improve her game. She is currently a sports science student at West Notts College in Mansfield, and an important member of the Chesterfield FC Ladies First Team Squad.

Rachel Willatt:
Rachel WillattRachel was a real find for the Centre. She only started playing organised football in 1998 when she was sent by her school teacher to Nottinghamshire Under 16 squad trials. At that stage she had never played any form of organised football and didn't even realise that there were women's football teams.

She is a very athletic player with electric pace and a superb right foot. After leaving the Centre she joined Chesterfield FC Ladies and has now become a regular in their First team midfield. After less than 12 months competitive experience it will be interesting to watch her develop.

Keighley Hall:
Keighley HallChesterfield based Keighley began playing Club football in 1992 for Chesterfield Ladies and has since progressed through all the age groups, via the Centre of Excellence, into the Ladies First team squad during 1999/2000.
Keighley was with the Centre for 4 short months in 1999 when her never say die attitude on the pitch proved to be a real assset to the team. She is now well established in the Chesterfield FC Ladies First team squad.
