After the slaughter
The slaughter is finally over and all 108 Suitors are
dead, lying in heaps like dead fish; you only spare two - the bard Phemius
and the herald Medon (although Leodes the priest cops it). You were grateful
for Athena's help (a long time coming!). Eumaeus and Philoetius were superb
- particularly when they caught the vile Melanthius (the goatherd) trying
to smuggle in weapons for the Suitors. The hung him up in the armoury to
be dealt with at leisure. The "thoughtful" Telemachus has proved himself
a worthy son indeed.
NOW WHAT?
