The Pet Bereavement Support Service is a
nation-wide telephone support line for bereaved pet owners who have lost
their pet through death or enforced separation. The service offers a
"listening ear" in the form of Telephone Befrienders. These are volunteers
situated around the country, who have undergone a supervised training
programme, and who experience in helping people overcome emotional difficulties
resulting from pet loss.
People in distress can call free phone number
0800 0966606, and will be answered by a group co-ordinator. They will
then be given the name, telephone number and contact times of a telephone
befriender situated closest to where they are calling from. The helpline
is open from 8.30am to 5pm every day of the week, with an answer phone outside
of these hours.
