It is widely believed that Goonie never attended school, however the above photograph would suggest otherwise. We now know that Goonie was actually present (though not necessarily correct), but he refused to answer to any name other than 'The Old Man Of Walthamstow' and so was regularly marked absent when the register was taken. This and his other habitual peculiarities eventually led to his expulsion, forcing him to leave his gang of mates behind just as they were poised to become internationally famous, leading to his reputation as the Pete Best of Children's BBC. Goonie went on to take up residence on the scrap heap. |
