Defender Number three has apparently signed today or Newcastle United. Remember the blerk that Dennis Wise bit in the cup winners cup? The ugly Spanish defender Marcelino Elena , well thats him. This time it's for £ 6 million . Again though the rumour comes from Real Mallorca, the club who last week said they were selling us Dani for £10 million, just to hike the price up on him. It could be true, but I can't see why we need three defender? If it is true then perhaps we are not getting Goma or Luzhinney. we shall see. A number of International friendlies involving Newcastle players were played last night. Ketsbaia returned to international duty for Georgia, he was taken off at half time they lost 4 - 1 to Norway. Maric also only played for 45 minutes. Croatia and Italy drew 0 - 0 . Scotland beat Germany 1 - 0, the German coach was not too happy with Hamman or any of the German players for that matter. Shay Given kept a clean sheet against Sweden , whom Ireland beat 2 - 0 . Northern Ireland had Aaron Hughes in the side that was booed off the pitch as they drew with Canada . Geordie lawrie McMenemys job now looks in doubt. Meanwhile England with Shearer leading from the front had a magnificent game in Hungary . The score was 1 - 1, but everyone was brilliant. Well that's what the papers that I read said. Personally I thought we were crap. It was only to be expected having so many new players on show. Super Kev , ran about a lot, missed a couple of easy chances then got praise off everyone. The likes of Macmanamanamanamnan and Ferdinand had nightmare games and Seamen had one save to make... he missed it. Phil Neville was nowhere to be seen, later he was replaced by Sunderlands Michael Gray, who actually looked quite lively. The other first timer Wes Brown , made a couple of bad mistakes , lets hope he gets a game in the cup final. In the centre, Sherwood and Butt passed sideways and gave the ball away while Batty was.. well Batty. Keown looked Ok, well he didn't look Ok as he's an ugly ***** , but he played OK, as did Shearer. He was certainly the best player on the pitch and was to be found all over the park, which goes to show how poor some of the others were. The only goal came when he dived though the Hungarian defence and was awarded a penalty. (more practice for the cup final?). Ok so this was a friendly but why play in such a negative way? Why not go out and attack, try to get a few goals. Last year Hungary were beaten 12 - 0 on aggregate in two games against Yugoserbia., Why didn't our players push forward, take on a few players. I was bored to tears. Infact at half time it was a case of getting entertainment from playing footy manager , intending to run in when it got lively. needless to say I got 3/4 hour undisturbed. After the game Keegan suggested that he would take the job full time. Well I am overjoyed. Really I think he's a great manager, lets hope he can get England playing like Newcastle did 5 years ago. NEXT, The Newcastle Reserves. they were actually playing at Huddesfield in the last game of the season (league). Next Wednesday night they play in the final of the Northumberland senior cup . The game is at St James' park against Blyth Spartans. The east stand will be open for spectators and you will probably be able to pay at the turnstiles. They didn't have much life about them last night I wonder if they had been trying to emulate the England performance? They were beaten 1 - 0 . The games from last week which gained the team promotion are on the reserves pages. I have some exclusive pictures to put on to the reserve pages soon. Talking of pictures, I took some of the construction work at SJP tonight, then when I got home found I had a dozen E mailed to me from Steph. I shall sort the best ones out and upload them in the next day or two. The ground really is going to be huge, It's hard to see the enormity of the structure from a photograph. You have to be there. SO why not pop along to the last game at home against Blackburn in 2 weeks? there should be a few tickets available on the Thursday beforehand as Blackburn are not noted for their vast away support, especially on a day that will see them relegated. |

Shearer and Super Kev line up for England against Hungary tonight. It's the first time since the mid seventies that both a Newcastle and a Sunderland player were in the same team .25 years ago it was Supermac and Watson and we won. Mini review of the match here tomorrow Last night Andy Griffin tested his ankle, It looked bad at the time as he hobbled away on crouches. After examination today though it looks like he will only need a few days to recuperate and may well be in the frame for a place against Boro on Saturday. Giant inflatable bottles of Broon Ale are selling well on Tyneside this week , with the news that Gazza is back on the booze and likely to play for Boro on Saturday. I wonder what his reaction will be when he sees dozens of large Broon ale bottles in the crowd? The Newcastle Youth team played Coventry last night in te second leg of the youth cup Semi final. Newcastle were 4 - 0 down after the first leg, they managed to get 2 goals back through McMahon and Broadbent, but when Coventry pulled a goal back after 75 minutes it was game set and match for the sky blues who now play in the final. Talking about BROADBENT, are you playing the REMOV - a- BALL game? It will be finished on Saturday

Andy Griffin could miss the FA cup final after he was stretchered off the pitch during his first England U21 match against Hungary tonight. The match should have been postponed after a torrential downpour flooded the pitch in Budapest. Instead the game was postponed for an hour. When it did start it was more like watching water polo than football. It was quite amusing watching the players slide through deep pools of water, that was until Griff got an injury. He seamed to land badly after an ariel challenge,. Hopefully he will just be out with a twisted ankle for a few days. On the other hand he did look like he was in a lot of pain, so it could be a lot worse with possibly ligament damage. Back to the game and the first half saw two great goals by a young Hungarian Denes Rosa?? he played on the left, was great with both feet, scored from a free kick rather like Hamman and chipped the keeper for a glorious second. Certainly a player to look out for. He was the star of the show in the first half and the Hungarians lead 2 - 0 at half time. As the pitch dried out in the second half, England began to play some good football and it ended up 2 - 2..Mills getting a header then a penalty which Beatie converted. Tomorrow night sees Shearer captain the full squad, He has SUPER KEV as his partner upfront , should be interesting. A mini report will be here same time, same channel tomorrow night Dreadful news about Duncan Ferguson, I have the full sad story here. At least we look likely to sign this new Dynamo Kiev player, who has now become Oleh Luzhnyi. pronounced Ole, Luz Hinney , could be the beginning of a clasic Toon chant, ole, ole, ole olaa Olehinney , Olehinney. ........ Or something.. |

No reports yesterday as i was busy re doing the front index page of There are loads of stories and features to keep you amused in the Scum. A new page today is called simply red. If you want irritate a Makem, Manc or Smoggie then send them this URL. http://www.the-scum.freeserve.co.uk/simply_red.htm it's got to be the most annoying page I ever made. AND now for the gossip from the last couple of days.
When I heard that we were after a Dynamo player I was hoping it would be Either Andrea Shevchenko or Segii Rebrov. It looks like these two will also be on their way out of Kiev, following the exit of Kiev from the champions league. Shevchenko is expected to fetch over £20 million with AC Milan looking most likely to get him. Rebrov who is nearly as good is attracting a lot of interest from Spanish clubs and is rated in the £10 million bracket. He may well be in Newcastle's price bracket as speculation still grows regarding the Likes of Dani from real Mallorca joining Newcastle in the summer for £10. This rumour has been scoffed at by Newcastle who say they are not interested in him. others weekend rumours centered around Duncan Ferguson leaving for ARSENAL or Even returning to Everton. again It's all a load of bollocks,. Dunc will be playing alongside Shearer next season. Newcastle have tried to play down rumours that He will be out for a few months insisting that HE WILL BE READY for the cup final. I will believe it when I se it. More speculation regarding the Goalkeepers position. The most believable being that Gullit is lining up both the Danish under 21 goalie Jimmy Neilsen AND Shrewsbury's young reserve Glyn Thompson, who is on show at Kingston park tonight. If the papers are to be believed, Given will be sold to Villa after he plays in the cup final with Harper promoted to the No 1 spot . Jimmy Neilsen. and Thompson will fight for the No 2 spot as peter keen and Perez both look likely to move on . Personally I think Given is Ok for next season, but should be rested for the inform Harper. |

No match report on this game as there wasn't a vast amount to report. IN BRIEF> The Line up is GIVEN, returning in goal GRIFFIN...BEHARALL ... DABIZAS... DOMI SOLANO .. HAMMAN...SPEED MARIC. ADDE ... SHEARER. Subs Harper, Barton, Hughes, McClen, Brady (non used) Worryingly there is still no sign of Ferguson, speculation grows that all is not well on the injury front. Andersson has returned , and is given one last chance to impress . Unfortunately throughout the game he tended to fall over a lot, and didn't do an awful lot. On the plus side, Dabizas is looking better as is Silvio Maric and Beharall had an excellent game. The goals both came in the first half which was rather lively . Newcastle scored first on the 15 minute mark, Maric tore down the wing, pulled back to Hamman who crossed it for Shearer to head home. 7 Minutes later Sullivan makes a huge clearance that finds Kerry Hughes. he shoots along the ground , Given fails to hold it , Hartson is quickest to react to the rebound scoring his first goal for the Dons. the game was slightly more exciting than the last two, but we need to start winning. Next week it's home to BORO. They were hammered 6 - 1 at home by Arsenal today. I think we will get a good win with this one. In the mean time Alan Shearer and England fly to Hungary for a friendly International, with Sunderlands "Super Kev" in line for his first England cap alongside Shearer, that'll be interesting. |

It's Called Rik's Remov-a-Ball Newcastle drew 1 - 1 at Sheffield last night. No point in doing a match report as it was as boring as the Everton game (with a marginally better result) Briefly Newcastle got a penalty after Rob Lee fell over Srnicek. Shearer scored. In the second half Sheffield's Substitute Scott made it 1 - 1 . Shearer was substituted to give him a break as was Rob lee. Harper played the 90 minutes, had little to save, but his kicking was good. Given is back for the Dons game , after that who knows? More exciting news is that this week Freddie and Ruud were in MADRID. Initial reports thought Juninho could be the target from Athletico. However it was Real who were contacted with Newcastle looking to buy one of their top players. Things are very hush hush, with little being given away, I asked Honest John at the Cullercoats Betting Syndicate for odds on the likely players, His quotes (to join before August 1st) are :- Davor Suker 16 - 1 Clarence Seedorf 20 - 1 Christian Karembeu 28 - 1 Robert Jarni - 33 - 1 Raul - 66-1 Roberto Carlos 80 - 1 Prerag Mijatovic 80 -1 Other Players linked to Newcastle are Tomas Locatelli from Udinese in Italy, where Ruud apparently was seen on Sunday , and young Danish goalie Jimmy Neilsen. It looks to me like Ruud is after a 3rd striker , a left Midfielder, TWO centre backs and a young goalie. This could mean that he will sell Given to Villa when they lose Bosnich providing the price is high enough. Harper being promoted to the No 1 spot. And Dabizas may also not be retained. The future of Georgiadis and Anderson also look in doubt. Pistone looks set to be sold off cheaply after his loan spell expires. All in all this would give Ruud up to £10 million to spend on some new players. More later. |
