With The re appearance of Glass and Ferguson and emergence of Harper and Beherall in recent games along with the demise of Hughes and Given, the question of the cup final team is the only issue being discussed on Tyneside today. I have a crack at the team on the Comments page page.

On the transfer front it looks like Paul Dalglish will be staying at Norwich. A fee of £300,000 has been mentioned and newcastle look like they will be accepting the offer. The recently promoted Bantams of Bradford City, (or the tykes if you read The Star) could be lining up the million pound that Newcastle are asking for Phillipe Albert. In a bid to strengthen their side in the top flight next year. If they are after top quality players and have the money that they say they have, perhaps Ruud should get on the phone and offer a discount deal for buying in bulk. Surely they could use top Premiership players such as Adde, Georgiados , Perez and Serrant all for £5 million, If they took all of them off us then we could even let them have Hamilton back for free.

The Competition competition is drawing to a close. Only two matches to play before I have to part with the incredible prize that I mentioned. I wouldn't normally mind giving such a Mega prize out, It's just the likely winner is always nasty to me, he doesn't deserve to win it. still thats football, the best team doesn't always win.

Newcastle United are Crap, Ferguson, Charvet, Howey, Glass and Griffin aren't fit and won't be fit for the final. Ruud Gullit doesn't know what his best team is and is about to walk out on Newcastle as soon as they get stuffed in the FA cup final by the brilliant Man United. Gullit will then go to Fulham , and Newcastle will again be in turmoil.

Well thats what a number of people are starting to think,

I know better,

It's all part of :-

"RUUD'S CUNNING PLAN"

Yes indeed it's all part of the master coaches master plan.

Think about it. if Man U were playing Arsenal or Chelsea in the cup final , What would they think? How would they react?

I think they would be prepared to have a tough game that could go either way, they would have their best team out and would be fully focused on taking on the best. But It's just struggling Newcastle ... again in turmoil, can't win against lowly Leicester or any one else for that matter. I am not saying that Man U will step off the gas completely and play their reserves but they will underestimate us and take us more lightly than other teams.

Newcastle have had nothing to gain and everything to lose by trying too hard in recent weeks, they could pick up unnecessary injuries , tire themselves out, get Yellow or even Red cards, but what's the point? Unlike last year we wont be relegated, and we can't get high up the league.

So Ruud came up with this plan to lull Man U into a false sense of security. I bet you other than Howey all players will be fully fit for the final, although there will be still rumours that the likes of Ferguson and some of the others might not be available. I can even see Shearer getting a small knock that keeps him out of the Blackburn game.

Despite what Gullit and the players say, the league isn't important, It's all geared up to cup final day. Man United won't know what hit them as a full strength Newcastle United burst into action on the 22nd May.

When the cup comes home with the lads on the 23rd May all of these last few dire performances from Newcastle United will soon be forgotten. Ruud Gullit will become the new Messiah, Signing a new contract and given funds to give newcastle as good a chance as any of challenging for honors next season.

Remember. you heard it here first.

Newcastle United spring a suprise on Leicester and the rest of us by playing Ferguson from the start along with

HARPER

BARTON .. BEHARALL..DABIZAS..DOMI

. LEE .. HAMMAN ..SPEED .. SOLANO

FERGUSON.. SHEARER.

On the bench are,

 Given, Hughes, GLASS, kets, Brady.

Newcastle didn't want to risk any RED cards which would have ruled them out of playing in the cup final. So they played against Leicester without making any tackles. It was little wonder that they were down 2 - 0 nil by half time. Goals came from Muzzy Izzet after Elliot had had his shot saved by Harper. it fell to Izzet and harper had no chance. The Second saw Cottee bend a lovely shot around harper, who again had no chance.

The second half Saw the introduction of glass on for Solano and Ferguson strangely replaced by Kets.

It was a good fitness exercise but we never came close to scoring. Like i say a game without tackles doesn't work too well and we ended up on the losing side. Not to worry one game left to play until Wembley. With Blackburn losing today and having to beat MAN U to stay in the league before they play us next Sunday. Then Next weeks game could also be a damp squid affair as Blackburn could by then be relegated.

Talking of relegation, Charlton came back with a late goal against Aston Villa to win 4 -3 and give them a lifeline to survival. The last goal came from an incident that saw STEVE WATSON sent off for pulling down a Charlton player. The resulting free kick saw Lee Mills get a vital winner which may just be enough to see them stay up next season.

This wasn't the most dramatic event of the day. At the bottom of the third division relegation out of the football league into the non league Conference was dependant on Carlisle winning in there last game. After 90 minutes it was 1 - 1. Five minutes into injury time Carlisle had a corner. Their On loan Goalkeeper came up for the corner , he was on the end of the pass which he smashed into the net.

Carlisle who 25 years ago were top of the top English league were seconds away from going out of the football league, possibly into a merger with Scottish club Clydebank or playing non league football . There owner Michael Knighton who 15 years ago was on the brink of Taking over Manchester United, lives to fight another day. Jimmy Glass the on loan keeper will get the freedom of the city of Carlisle.

Scarborough will now go into the Conference with Cheltnham coming up to play with the big boys. Tomorrow sees the final game before the play offs in the first division. Sunderland Are up and already talking about buying Watson from Villa for £5 million. They talk big but act small, I can't see them forking out that much for a player, and would Watto want to play for Sunderland?

Not a lot happening today, Strong suggestions that Harper may well be in goal for the Leicester game, (is he now number one?) And will four 20 year old lads play in Newcastles defence on Saturday? Probably not as Griff is still not reckoned to be risked. My predic T It girl thinks that there will be a couple of changes, It's on the front page. A mini match report will be here at half time and shortly after full time on Saturday afternoon.

Just one more thing... Are you any good at managing Newcastle United in Championship manager 3? I am crap keep almost getting the sack. I need to know the secret of success, take a look at my Click here if you play CM3 Newcastle United page

Newcastle United have won the league and cup double. The cup was lifted at St James' park last night, a week after they won the league. For a more detailed report CLICK HERE.

Shearer cartoon

A 62 foot caricature (the largest one ever made) of Shearer was to be hung from the Tyne bridge yesterday, Unfortunately the rope snapped just after this picture was taken. The caricature was rescued and strapped to one of the support towers. Shearer though didn't have time to stay to see it repositioned. They are going to try again another day before it is auctioned off for charity. Thanks to Ian at Freepoto for the picture, I am sure he will snap it up again next time it is hung out (cup final day?). Click on the picture for a link to the Free photo site.

Newcastle United are reported to have signed Elena Marcelino from cup winner cup finalists for £5.5 million along with Alain Goma for £4 million and Luzhinney for £2 million. Three defenders coming in is likely to mean the end for Dabizas and possibly warren Barton. Thats why Gullit isn't saying anything about any new signings until after the cup final, he doesn't want to unsettle existing players. More speculation on Comments page

Ruud Gullit has denied that he is interested in Clarence Seedorf. It suggests that Seedorf wants to come to the premiership and would prefer Newcastle after a bust up with John Toshack, the New Real Madrid boss. It makes my Comments page out of date already. So I updated it

Sergii Rebrov has risen in the likely to sign him chart, as apparently Boro are in for him. Lets face it would you go to Boro if you had the chance to join Newcastle. Not only are we a bigger better club with a nicer ground, nicer fans and much nicer city. but his friend Oleh Luzhinney could also be on the books next year after he chose Newcastle ahead of Boro.

With all these foreigners coming in , you have to ask yourself is this the way of things in the future? Will we ever have home grown talent at Newcastle again? Well, Ruud Gullit has taken a big step in ensuring that there will be local youngsters in the team.

On Monday Ruud was at a local talent spotting day being held on playing fields in Benton. Anyone could take their budding Alan shearer's along, if he was between 8 and 11 years old, if they thought they were good enough and had applied for an entry form in advance. Ruud Gullit was present along with Shearer, Lee and Barton.and a number of coaches and scouts. In all nearly 1,000 kids had applied to take part in the talent spotting day. It was quite a serious day out with autograph books being banned. The boys each played in 2 short games between themselves. Hopefully some of these lads will attend the new football academy when it opens, and we will get a few more youngsters into the full team in 10 years or so.

The idea to get them all together for a fun day kickabout was Ruuds idea that he got from his time with Ajax, who are one of the biggest producer of local talent than any other team. If Newcastle can get just one top player a year, then it could save us a fortune in the future.

Andy Griffin was in full training today despite writing off his Porche at a level crossing at 5.30 yesterday evening. He failed to see the warning lights and ploughed his £60,000 sports car into the slowly moving metro train. The car is unrepairable, Griff was fine. However the tabloids are making more of the story than he would have liked, READ ONE OF THEIR STORIES HERE

 2nd May

No match report for yesterdays game. It could be summed up in a couple of sentences, Oh go on then, just a quickey...

Ruud's team selection saw the brilliant Steve Harper replace the temporarily Shakey Given in goal. Beherall was given another chance to impress in defence alongside Dabizas. Barton and Domi made up the back four. Same midfield as usual with Lee, Hamman and Speed, further forward was Maric, DUNC was upfront along side super , super Al super ... super Al , super... super Al super Alan Shearer . Sorry I am making up for my lack of vocality (it's a new word) at the match.

Newcastle were OK, to start with but had no width and little imagination for most of the game. First half saw Harper make a couple of fine saves, Domi was the best of the defenders, Barton the worst with a few balls going astray. Dabizas still looked uncomfortable but Beherall was canny. Midfield saw three players very close to each other and Maric very disjointed slightly further forward. Duncan Ferguson looked threatening and Harper found him on numerous occasions. As could be expected by a player out for so long, He wasn't as mobile as Shearer who was all over them

. The refereeing in the first half was appalling. At half time the refs not only changed their strips but their allegiances. To start with the officials had looked like they were wearing Toon shirts that had been washed along with their new blue jeans. They chose a darker little number in Aquamarine blue with sequined collars and cuffs for the second half.

The Boro goal was against the run of play, a longish shot out of the blue saw them take the lead. It woke the Smoggies up and some of the dozing toon fans. They sung a few verses of... Actually I don't know what they were singing It was in a different language, I don't speak Smoggie.

Minutes later Newcastle got another penalty when Domi was hacked down in the box. Shearer made no mistake blasting it high into the net. For the next 10 minutes we looked lively, Solano and Kets were now on a it looked like we were going to win. It wasn't to be as the last 15 minutes painfully saw both teams accept the inevitable 1 - 1 draw. I think we should just agree now to draw the next 2 games 1 - 1 .There seams little point paying good money to see the half hearted attempts by the selected team going through the motions. Obviously they don't want to get either an injury or a red card with the cup final drawing closer.

The closer we get to the cup final, the more questions are raised about the Final team selection. If you had tried to pick a team two or three weeks ago, then you would have managed to pick eight or nine dead certs. After the recent poor games that number has gone down to Four or Five. There are so many permutations and Questions raised about current players and next years team that i put it all on a new page. It's kind of a player prediction page with views and rumours thrown in take a look

It's the big day today... no not the BORO match, the form is now up to enter theClick here competition. You have 20 days in which to get the form to me .Will you win the big prize? someone has to.

No fresh rumours over the last day or two , so I updated the St James' parkpage with some pictures taken on Thursday night..

I also updated the Newcastle United favorite player page click here to vote for your top toon player. You can still vote every week , for your favorite and least favorite players.

Also a bit behind was the fantasy Football results. Screacher is top , but it's close at the top of the table. Results are here

April 29th

Defender Number three has apparently signed today or Newcastle United. Remember the blerk that Dennis Wise bit in the cup winners cup? The ugly Spanish defender Marcelino Elena , well thats him. This time it's for £ 6 million . Again though the rumour comes from Real Mallorca, the club who last week said they were selling us Dani for £10 million, just to hike the price up on him. It could be true, but I can't see why we need three defender? If it is true then perhaps we are not getting Goma or Luzhinney. we shall see.

A number of International friendlies involving Newcastle players were played last night.

Ketsbaia returned to international duty for Georgia, he was taken off at half time they lost 4 - 1 to Norway.

Maric also only played for 45 minutes. Croatia and Italy drew 0 - 0 .

Scotland beat Germany 1 - 0, the German coach was not too happy with Hamman or any of the German players for that matter.

Shay Given kept a clean sheet against Sweden , whom Ireland beat 2 - 0 .

Northern Ireland had Aaron Hughes in the side that was booed off the pitch as they drew with Canada . Geordie lawrie McMenemys job now looks in doubt.

Meanwhile England with Shearer leading from the front had a magnificent game in Hungary . The score was 1 - 1, but everyone was brilliant. Well that's what the papers that I read said.

Personally I thought we were crap. It was only to be expected having so many new players on show. Super Kev , ran about a lot, missed a couple of easy chances then got praise off everyone. The likes of Macmanamanamanamnan and Ferdinand had nightmare games and Seamen had one save to make... he missed it. Phil Neville was nowhere to be seen, later he was replaced by Sunderlands Michael Gray, who actually looked quite lively. The other first timer Wes Brown , made a couple of bad mistakes , lets hope he gets a game in the cup final.

In the centre, Sherwood and Butt passed sideways and gave the ball away while Batty was. well Batty. Keown looked Ok, well he didn't look Ok as he's an ugly ***** , but he played OK, as did Shearer. He was certainly the best player on the pitch and was to be found all over the park, which goes to show how poor some of the others were. The only goal came when he dived though the Hungarian defence and was awarded a penalty. (more practice for the cup final?). Ok so this was a friendly but why play in such a negative way? Why not go out and attack, try to get a few goals. Last year Hungary were beaten 12 - 0 on aggregate in two games against Yugoserbia., Why didn't our players push forward, take on a few players. I was bored to tears. Infact at half time it was a case of getting entertainment from playing footy manager , intending to run in when it got lively. needless to say I got 3/4 hour undisturbed.

After the game Keegan suggested that he would take the job full time. Well I am overjoyed. Really I think he's a great manager, lets hope he can get England playing like Newcastle did 5 years ago.

NEXT,

The Newcastle Reserves. they were actually playing at Huddesfield in the last game of the season (league). Next Wednesday night they play in the final of the Northumberland senior cup . The game is at St James' park against Blyth Spartans. The east stand will be open for spectators and you will probably be able to pay at the turnstiles. They didn't have much life about them last night I wonder if they had been trying to emulate the England performance? They were beaten 1 - 0 . The games from last week which gained the team promotion are on the reserves pages. I have some exclusive pictures to put on to the reserve pages soon.

Talking of pictures, I took some of the construction work at SJP tonight, then when I got home found I had a dozen E mailed to me from Steph. I shall sort the best ones out and upload them in the next day or two. The ground really is going to be huge, It's hard to see the enormity of the structure from a photograph. You have to be there. SO why not pop along to the last game at home against Blackburn in 2 weeks? there should be a few tickets available on the Thursday beforehand as Blackburn are not noted for their vast away support, especially on a day that will see them relegated.
