As the school is closing at the end of the year, are there any former pupils from the school's early days (1959-63) who would like to get together for a reunion?

I was at Blackthorn from 63-69. I remember playing football at playtime, class 6 versus class 10. Trying to climb the wall, and eventually succeeding. Mr Edwards was head and Mr Goddard was deputy. The nice teachers I remember were Miss Harding, Mr Thomas, and Mr Jones, the nasties were Mr Sykes and Mrs Hingley.

I was at Blackthorn in the mid-fifties. Mr Edwards was the headmaster, and I remember how each morning at assembly, he would play some classical music and put the name of the composer and the piece on a board - a brilliant idea which meant that even today I still can recognise so many pieces of music. Does anyone remember the dining room, with the six-sided tables? Your job was carefully worked out depending on where you sat - can't recall exactly, but I think 1 was dinner server, 2 served the sweet, 3 cleared dinner things, 4 cleared sweet things and 6 was reserve! 5 must have laid the table?
We had a super teacher, Mr Guinery, who was so encouraging and enthusiastic. When we studied the West Indies, not only did he borrow authentic steel band instruments, he wrote a calypso for us to perform at the school concert while he accompanied us on his guitar. Later, we even made a record. He was so encouraging about my 'compositions', that years later, I became a writer. Friends I remember included Valerie Lutkin, Wendy Rogers, Joan Searle, Sally Sneddon and Alma Greener - have lost contact with them now.

When to Blackthorn in the early 60's. Fond memories: going up on stage and receiving post card like pictures on your birthday, sports day and being on the green team, Going in the dell for story time, bottles of milk with the cream on top and getting the cane for playing in the dells and wearing long pants three days in a row. I now live in Toronto, Canada.
