David Simkins, now on the edge of Dartmoor (posted 28/1/2002)
I attended The Grammar School from Sept 1964 to July 1969 when I left to go to college. I qualified as a Chartered Surveyor a few years later and have lived in Devon and Hampshire. Apart from Kevan Baker (message below) I too have not been in contact with any old friends. There are school reunions planned I understand for those who started in 1962 but if there is any one in my year post a message. Cheers David

Martin Buekers, now in Melbourne, Australia (posted 2/10/2001)
I did a full stretch with no remission at WGCGS 1959-1966. This searing experience drove me to the antipodes where I have spent most of my adult life repairing the damage. No, actually the most electrifying things I learnt happened in the treeline at the bottom of the playing field. And no, that didn't involve Denis. Where are they now, Rowlinson, Milner, Tobin, Kilyenyi (Ohh Zoe!!) Read (the man who defined "long-suffering") and who could ever forget Headmaster whatsisname? I remember writing abstract poetry with Gary Manning (the least abstract boy in school) and desperately wanting to be in Paul and Neil's exclusive club (2 members). Drop me a line (esp Paulibus).........

Rosie Mitchell, Reading (posted 20/8/2001)
I was at WGC Grammar from 1965 to 1972, though not under my present name. They were not, I admit, the happiest days of my life. Since then I have been a teacher, a software engineer and a politician, and life has taken me to Hull, Cambridge, London, New York and Bristol. I'm now settled in Reading as a writer, broadcaster, and in-yer-face campaigner for a particular brand of minority rights. If this tickles your curiosity I refer old schoolmates to the website at http://www.aida.demon.co.uk/rosie which should explain a lot. The site is in the process of being replaced and is now out of date, including the email address. I write crime novels, though not yet in the Ruth Rendell league. I'm also working on an autobiography, well I can't say I've had a dull life really. And I'm always happy to talk about old times, if you want to get in touch.

Elizabeth Liz Ashton nee Bradley (now in Ely, Cambridgeshire) (posted 17/4/2001)
Lived in WGC from 1955-58 and attended WGC Grammar School. I was wrenched away in my third year in Summer '58 when my father got promotion with ICI to Surrey. Although I met my husband in Surrey and we have been married for nearly 37 years, my memories of WGC are very special. Have kept in touch with Ann Spencer, Monica Metherell (now Mannings), Sue Draper, but lost touch with many more. Anyone remember or know the whereabouts of Fionnuala Boyd, Kerry Littlewood, Barbara Inman, Sally Boreham, Gillian Bavin, Sue Thorn, Kay Hammond, Maureen Mead,(sorry, I could list many more but would take up too much space!). Used to pester the life out of one John Howell, dish/hunk of the Lower Sixth - whither he? Have visited WGC recently, and it still is a special place for me. Attended the School Diamond Jubilee last year but did not see many from my year. Why not, chaps ?? Did not reach great academic heights. Followed my father into ICI (Head Office, Millbank)as a secretary for 4 years, then marriage, 3 daughters, then pursued a second career in music. Now sing jazz with local groups. Have a website and have made 2 CDs. There's posh! Mr. Jackson was our music teacher. "Hearts of Oak", etc! Remember Old Nick, Dennis Heft, Mr. Frazer, Mr. Arnold, Mr. Harman (Geography?), Miss Dallimore (how many remember her tight sweaters ??!!) Anyone remembering me or any others I have mentioned, I need some feedback, please. Know of any other reunions?

Barry Fleming (now in Leamington Spa) (posted 12/12/2000)
I attended The Grammar School from 1949 to 1956. After lounging around at Stanborough Pool - remember that?? I qualified as at schoolteacher, and I taught in India, Birmingham, Nigeria and Coventry, finally retiring in 1995 or else the National Curriculum would have killed me. I now live in Leamington Spa with my two children - my wife died recently - and I would love to hear from anyone else who suffered at the hands of Old Nick, Dennis Heft, Reed, and any of the others.
