I am predominantly a ceramic artist and tend to draw my inspiration from the human form, I have recently started to raku fire my work and have fallen in love with the whole process. The unique combination of painting and embroidery which is the trademark of Iris's work had aroused interest at craft fairs in Worcester and Malvern for around twenty years. Now Iris is based back near her childhood home in New Castle Emlyn, West Wales Her Paintings on Silk, embelished with fine threads and tiny beads reflect her enjoyment of her garden and surounding countryside. Wild flowers such as poppies and foxgloves frequently feature in her work along with birds, butterflies, dragonflies and trees. Trained in textile design, Iris has been combining painting, embroidery and air brush work on silk since leaving college. Her cobwebs created of Silver thread and tiny crystal beads add an unusual finishing touch to the work. In her framed pictures, tails of flowers and leaves spill over from the silk onto the mount again adding another dimension and life to the work.
