#1: We thought we were connected, but when we sent the request, nothing came back.
#2: Connected to the MCP just fine, connection to Matchmaker is lost.
#3: Generic code. This can be any failed request to the MCP that isn't
security related.

Error Code - ID-10-T is a common member error, this usually occurs when
their is a void between the chair and the keyboard.  :-)
Error Code -73 is just a disconnection error. Standard Latency stuff.
Error Code -41 means the Game Server didn't respond

I get an error message telling me to initialize my Internet connection, but I'm connected to the Net. Why can't I connect to mplayer.com?
Certain network configurations do not allow you to connect to our servers. Mplayer.com requires a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP for short) connection, and may not work through a Proxy server, a firewall, or a non-Win95 TCP/IP compatible WinSock. To troubleshoot this, you can contact your ISP or Network Administrator and ask them if they use a Proxy configuration or a firewall. If a Proxy Server or firewall is in place, the System Administrator needs to allow both TCP and UDP packets to pass through ports 8000-9000.

Specifically if they are running transparent caching, have them allow for the following IP addresses to NOT be cached:

209.185.127.13
209.1.133.142
209.1.133.139

and (if possible) 38.*.*.* and 206.*.*.*. Our ISP uses a rotating IP system, which is why the range is so large. The main three are imperative. The ranges are helpful. If they cannot remove those servers from being cached, then you will need to be removed from the caching system.

If you are not running through a Proxy Server or a Firewall, it may be that the Networking components installed on your computer are not the standard Win95 components. If you go to Control Panels and open up Network, you should see a protocol there listed as:

TCP/IP -> Dial Up Adapter
OR if you are connecting from AOL, you should see:
TCP/IP -> AOL

If you are not seeing these components installed, you need to add them.

For AOL, you can download the proper version of software by using the keyword "get95" from AOL. AOL can provide you with better information to insure you are using the Win95 compatible components.

General errors:
Alert Text not set...This is the best error message I can give you, 500 Internal Error, Inventory Control System could not provide final Status message, Mysterious Error – all of these are errors that occur when there are problems with the service itself.

C++ Runtime error – error on log in for which there is no fix. Suggestions at this time are to go to www.filez.com and download the latest service pack to update their files. This may not work. If not, refer them to support.

Content Advisor, Forbidden Proxy – problems with Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer, click on View and click on Options(this is for version 3.x of Internet Explorer) or Internet Options(for version 4.x). In I. E. 3x, click on Security. The first section on that tab is the content advisor section. Disable it, and you should be fine. In I. E. 4x, click on Content. Again, the Content Advisor is the first section there, and should be disabled.

Decompression of enabler files not working properly (works like this for most games) The decompression of %s failed. There may not be enough free disk space available in the TEMP directory" –need to empty the c:\windows\temp directory (copy or delete files in it) and try again. If that doesn't work, need to make sure the value for Temp is set to Temp (a lot of times temp is set to equal dos or set to equal tmp). If Temp is set to dos, go to Start -> Run and type in Sysedit. Then click on Autoexec.bat and look for the line that has Temp = dos. Then change it to look like Temp = C:\windows\temp. Also, delete all IE Internet Cache files, and delete all internet cache for Netscape files.

Game Not Installed, Ics 0x2000000d–

1.Check to see if the game is on a removeable, zip, jazz, or other temporary or non-standard hard drive. If it is, you'll need to move it or Mplayer will have difficulty with the game.

2) How was the game installed? Using Add/remove programs instead of the games own install sometimes results in registry entries that Mplayer does not recognize. If this is how it was installed, uninstall and reinstall using the installer on the game cd.

3) Have you copied the game to another place on your system? If you copied the game, instead of installing it, Mplayer will look for the game where it was originally installed and not where it is. To fix this, you'll need to completely uninstall the game from both locations and install it where you'd like it to be.

4) Make sure you have no non-Mplayer-supported add-ons. For instance, Mplayer does not support the mission packs for Red Alert, or the current upgrade for Quake 2. As a result, these add-ons, or add-ons for any other game that you may have that we don't support, fool the Mplayer software into thinking you don't have the game. To fix this problem in most cases, all you have to do is remove the game and the add ons, reboot, and reinstall only the game.

5) Make sure you have enough hard drive space on your C drive. If Mplayer doesn't have enough room to install the enabler, you can sometimes get this message. You need at least 80 megs free on your C drive.

6) This is the "catch all" option, which has game specific answers. If the game you are having problems with isn't listed here, skip these.

Total Annihilation, Quake2 Links98

7) If you still receive the message that the game is not found, you'll want to try using the uninstall option for the game, rebooting, and reinstalling the game (if the game was not previously on the C drive, you'll want to reinstall the game to the C drive). Then go back to Mplayer and attempt to download the enabler again.

Invalid Page Faults
MIC causes an invalid page fault in
Mplayer, Gizmo exe, Mplaunch, other Mplayer files (Delete & Reinstall Mplayer)
Module unknown (repeat instances of this are indicative of a corruption in Window's '95—will require installation of Windows on top of itself).

Kernal32.dll errors/crashes

1. Kernal32.dll is a very important file/module for Windows '95. Mplayer, like many windows programs, uses this file. First, try all the memory issues – free space, background programs, scan disk/defrag. Next, check out how much Ram is required for the multiplayer version of the game you are trying to play on Mplayer when the crash occurs. Mplayer's basic system requirements are for 16 Megs of Ram, but some games like Heavy Gear and Total Annihilation require 24 Megs of Ram to play in Multiplayer mode.

2. If this does not help you, we suggest that you remove and reinstall Mplayer, to see if the module having problems with Kernal 32.dll will be replaced in the reinstallation.

3. If these things do not work, then our next recommendation is to try to update your Kernal32.dll file. I believe you can do that at www.microsoft.com. You can also pick up another version of Kernal32.dll in some of the Microsoft Service Packs. NOTE: Do not copy Kernal32.dll from a friend and simply try to copy over your present file as it could corrupt the entirity of your Windows '95 program.

4. My final suggestion, if all of the above does not work, is to try reinstalling Windows '95 on top of itself. While reinstalling Windows on top of itself rarely erases files from your hard drive, make a back-up of any important files on your system, just in case. When the reinstallation program asks if you'd like to use the more recent version of files that are on your hard drive, decline--allow the disk to completely write over the files so (hopefully) it will repair any damaged Windows files that may be causing your problem (dll files likes Kernal32.dll call several other files to perform certain functions. If those files are corrupt, and Kernal32.dll is not, you may still get this error and reinstalling Windows on top of itself may fix the problem).

Mic not working – go to http://www.mplayer.com/home/help/online/voicechat.phtml and have them configure there. They can contact the sound card manufacturer for more help.

Member Not Found – appears when you log on and will not bring up the main menu. Currently being fixed by deleting Chat.mpi file, rebooting, and relogging on. Also in rare instances, it's a bug in the install of Mplayer, and the error pops up whenever you switch lobbies. Just clicking "ok" will deliver you to the lobby. The fix for the rare case is to remove, reboot and reinstall Mplayer.

ModuleInvariant error – usually nothing, just click through or reboot. If that doesn't work, only other fix is to remove mplayer, reboot, and reinstall

Top

Mplayer cannot launch game in manifest – try rebooting, if that fails need to delete and reinstall game (make sure registry entry for game goes away).

Top

Mplayer.dll is missing – occurs when user is trying to "launch the game by hand" by double clicking any mp executable. It means they're not launching the game properly.

Old File Not found, file of same size send to tech support.

Top

OCX errors – have them run a file called "regocx.bat"

Room is deleted as you try to enter it, Waiting (in the thousands) of seconds to connect – latency issue cured by logging off and then back on (if reboot does not fix it may be packet loss issue-send to ISP) Also, Room is deleted can occur when your mouse gets into an odd state in relation to Mplayer. Try right click the room and going in that way. The next time you enter a room, the left click option should be ok.

Room Near Full Icon couldnt be opened... C:\PROGRA~1\\MPLAYER\\Art\\Standard\\small\\RoomNearFullIcon , art file problems Send them back to the web page to redownload the Mplayer Installer. Have them select custom install and all art options (large, medium, small). That may fix the problem. If it does not refer them to support.

Server is temporarily full – temporary condition where a user tries to get into a game and is given this message because the server they are trying to access is not permitting them on at this time. Has nothing to do with number of users in the game or in the room. They can try creating a different room, or log off, reboot and log back on (in the time it takes them to do this, the condition should have passed and they'll be able to get on the server)

Too Far in Cyberspace/Red X, ics 200001, lost connection to matchmaker (see latency)

Top

Url.dll not found. Have them copy the Url.dll file from wherever it is and put copy in their c:\windows\system directory as well as in c:\programfiles\mplayer

Top

WebPro32.ocx.gz – crash during Update or Installation. Send Users to ftp://ftp.mpath.com/pub/cs. They must download the WebPro32.ocx file and they must download a file there called Webreg.bat. They need to install WebPro32.ocx to their C:\windows\system directory. Then they need to double click Webreg.bat to run it (which registers the ocx and makes it possible for them to complete the download when they try it next).
Webster error (d) – when trying to log on or view main menu. Either send them to the ftp site ftp://ftp.mpath.com/pub/cs to get the Webreg.bat file and run it, or have them go to Start -> Run and put in regsvr32 webpro32.ocx then hit enter. It will register the ocx. Then click ok. Then reboot, and try logging on again.

Download Stops at 19-25%, assets/nvidia/nvidia-grid.swf.gz – crash during Update or Installation. Send Users to ftp://ftp.mpath.com/pub/cs to download the nivdia-grid.swf file there. Have them place the file in C:\Program Files\ Mplayer\assets\nvidia. Then they need to reboot, and restart the download.

Options tabs missing, One of Mplayer's Server's must be down, Arcane Error Code 0 x 20000014 – prevents logon. Have them email tech support at support@mplayer.com. We have a fix for both of these problems, they just require a long registry edit. If they email Tech support, ask them to put the error code or problem in the subject field—since we have a known solution it means we might handle the mail faster.

ICMP, C++ Runtime Error – No Known solution at this time. Development is actively working on these problems so people can log in. If you know someone (via ICQ, etc.) that has this problem, please have them send support@mplayer.com their ics1.txt file and explain the problem and error code they are receiving. That text file may help us to determine what is happening so we can fix it.

Top

Messed-Up Fonts – No Known solution. Not much data, either. Have people send a description of what is happening to support@mplayer.com, along with their ics1.txt and mptrace.txt files.

ipxchg - This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down - Get them to check their hardware settings in the game, possible they have 3D enabled and no 3D graphics card.  Also, get them to play first game offline on a lower screen resolution then put it up to normal again.

Top

dperr - can't create process - Try getting them to play a game offline and chose their graphics card.  If the game is Forsaken and they have a Voodoo3, tell them to chose Voodoo 2 in the vidio options for the game.  Also try updating their Direct X drivers.
