ALTERNATIVE VETERINARY MEDICINE CENTRE

Christopher Day - Veterinary Surgeon

Veterinary Herbal Medicine / Veterinary Phytotherapy

Veterinary herbal medicine uses the same principles as herbal medicine for humans, namely the treatment of disease conditions using plant material (aka phytotherapy, herbalism). The medicines are customarily called herbs but all manner of plants (including trees, algae and fungi) and plant parts can be used.

Herbal medicine is the true forerunner of modern conventional medicine, which inherits much of its strategy (and, it must be said, its medicines) from traditional herbal lore.

We devise herbal supplements, not only for specific problems in specific patients but also for general balanced nutrition for horses, to counteract as much as possible, the ill effects of modern pasture management.

Conditions which we are frequently called upon to treat with herbal vet medicine are: arthritis, laminitis, pneumonia, chronic cough, chronic diarrhoea, behavioural problems, fertility, cancer, skin disorders, allergy, atopy, hoof condition, coat condition, weight loss (poor condition), anxiety, excitement, hypersexuality, infertility, nervousness and fear.

We treat horses, ponies, dogs, cats, goats, donkeys and all other species. We visit all species around the UK and we also see dogs, cats and other small animals at our premises. House visits can be arranged for dogs, cats and other small animals.

We also conduct a VIDEO CONSULTATION SERVICE for those for whom it is impractical to travel to our clinic or to have us travel to the premises: http://www.alternativevet.org/videolink.htm

NB: Our main site www.alternativevet.org is subject to constant development, with many informative and thought-provoking pages to be added in the near future. It has been ‘off-air’ for a while but is expected back during July 2007, in much-expanded and greatly-improved form. We apologise if it has been difficult to make contact in recent times.
