I am currently a testing consultant working at Acutest mainly on software performance testing.

This has involved using performance testing tools from our partner organisations Mercury, Compuware and Facilita.

Acutest is an independent testing consultancy which concentrates just on testing software, IT and technology-centred change, with the aim of significantly increasing the value clients derive from testing.

For more details, see my testing pages.

I previously worked for Reuters as a software engineer from 1994. I was involved in all stages of the software lifecycle, managing small teams and technical projects, as well as doing significant hands on technical work.

Recent projects mainly involved Oracle databases and Solaris servers which supported Reuters on-line services for new products. Major parts of the work were customising billing software from Portal, and developing Java web services.

Prior to that I worked on developing, delivering and supporting infrastructure software for Reuters data warehouse, using UNIX System V.4 and Solaris 2.7. This involved significant database and network programming for high availability environments. Other projects involved integrating system management software from Tivoli.

I worked for Unisoft in London, UK from 1984 to 1994 as UNIX systems programmer, and project manager. (The company was known as ROOT Computers in the UK.)

From 1989 to 1994, I worked on projects developing test suites to test the standards developed and adopted by X/Open (now part of the Open Group). This included POSIX.1, POSIX.2, XPG3 and XPG4, X Window System libraries and protocols, and NFS.

Prior to that, I worked on office products and database packages. This included ISAM database interfaces and utilities.

I worked for CAP Scientific in London from 1980 to 1984. The CAP group was taken over by the Sema group some years ago, who in turn were taken over (twice!) and are now part of Atos Origin.
