The role of the Association practitioner is to assist the individual
to a state of greater health and well being conforming with the
law of cure'.

The practitioner shall at all times be guided by ethical principles,
as outlined by the appropriate ethical committee, and with integrity
and dignity in all matters regarding their professional conduct.

Association supervised practitioners are expected to operate and
aspire to the highest standards with regard to the welfare of the
patients entrusted into their care.

The practitioner is required to abide by guidelines of
confidentiality that are prescribed by Association for work within
the prison environment. These are described under a separate section
of this code.

A practitioner is permitted to practice with integrity and competence
more than one skill with a patient on the understanding that
Association has approved the application of those skills.

Association practitioners are responsible for continuing their
professional and personal development through supervision and the
acquiring of new understanding and skills through further training
and experience with the Association.

Association practitioners should at all times act in a respectful
manner to their patients and fellow colleagues. Practitioners should
not speak disrespectfully of fellow practitioners, to patients or to
those visiting the prisons for observation, liaison or training.

In carrying out their practice, Association practitioners are subject
to monitoring by supervisors to determine competence.

Practitioners must follow appropriate referral procedures for
patients presenting with problems which require conventional medical attention.

Every therapist must assume responsibility for the clinical practice
of his/her particular discipline in the setting of the Integrated
Complementary Medial Treatment Programmes.

The practitioner shall at all times also comply with the rules and
regulations applicable to the prison within which they are working.
Failure to comply with these codes of practice and ethics will
involve suspension of practice until such time as the appropriate
investigation has been undertaken.

The Association operates a person-centred community. A
placement training practitioners presence in the unit is
subject to active participation in the therapeutic communitys person-centred
training process.

Association practitioners must respect and abide the boundaries and
codes of conduct within the prison.

Association practitioners must not misuse or misappropriate, for
personal or other gain, any information that may obtain about the
structure or setup of CMS or CMSP nor any specifics of its approach
to treatment which is operated under licence to the prisons.

Association practitioners must abide by the codes of confidentiality
and ethics to which the Association is bound. In particular, no
information from clinic notes should be released outside of the CMSP
therapeutic community

Not to share any information or details about the function or
approach of Association training and treatment procedure.

To discus with the Director anything that you might wish to develop
or pass on to establishments or individuals in relation to the
specifics of the CMSP treatment approach, or anything you might wish
to establish that utilises, or negotiates with, CMSP staff, systems
or resources.

Association placements practitioners must observe the boundary that
no interviews, recordings by sound, video, written or photostat of
inmate activities, documents relating to their treatment or recovery,
is allowed.

All incidents and suicide threats need to be reported immediately
through CMSP department procedure.

All practitioners are required to dress in an appropriate
professional manner.

Never reveal personal details or give contact details or literature
to inmates or staff.

Do not offer to treat anyone outside of the formal application
procedure for CMSP. Also do not offer to treat or train inmates,
prison or CMSP staff outside of the prison environment. There is a
formal application for CMSP placement practitioners wishing to treat
other CMSP staff.

Refusal to abide by the Association boundaries and codes of conduct
and ethics, will result in the termination of the Association placement.
