Who are Deadsoft?
Well, Deadosft is kinda small at the moment, but will hopefully grow with time as people contribute to it with their ideas, games, patches or graphics/audio work.
Dead That's me, main programmer here. I've been programming since about the age of ten when I played about with BASIC on the school A4000s. Since then I've progressed onto Games Factory (TGF), BUILD, the Duke Nukem 3D editing system, HTML (Websites), BASIC and just a little C.
Sheraz Qureshi Sheraz acts as Beta tester for Deadsoft products, having recently critiqued South Park Superbowl'98. He also knows how to use BUILD, which could be handy. Oh, and he's a constant source of seriously strange and twisted ideas...
So what am I working on?
Now that CHRIS is complete (go get it from the Downloads area!) I'm working on a platform game. This will be a bit different to most Deadsoft titles, in that the emphasis will lie in arcade skills rather than thinking, although I'm sure I'll be able to put in some puzzle elements too. It will also be unique in that most of the graphics will be made by me in Paintshop, although the SouthPark characters will of course be from other, more artistic, sources!
what am I using?
Deadsoft Products are produced in one of four different environments:
C
I have just got hold of the DJGPP C compiler from the Delorie pages. As a result, I will hopefully soon be able to learn C in ernest (If i can find the excellent book I had from the library but had to return...). Of course, production of games will be a long way off yet, but in the form of helpfiles, guides or menu systems it may well be appearing with deadsoft products soon.
The Games Factory
Currently my development area of choice for its sheer ease of use and flexibility, being able to produce simple games in minutes yet still accomodate for ground-breakingly impressive results. All current downloads are TGF products and Death Chase is being created using TGF.
BUILD3D
The Duke Nukem 3D map editing system with which I am slowly mapping my school- I promise to finish at least one quad by the end of the summer, honest ;-)
BASIC
Where'd we be without basic, hey? It was through this simple little language that I first got intersted in programming, and indeed, before I got my paws on TGF a couple of months after acquiring my new PC I was all set to produce CHRIS as a text-based adventure game using this language, and indeed the first mission (which has been roughly recreated in the TGF version) was actually completed- maybe I'll upload it to start of a little retro corner....
What's the purpose of the site then?
With 50Mb available, there's plenty of space for downloads, of which there are currently 3. I'll also continue to provide updates, screenshots, and support for existing products.
