Fr Jim McCartney

Chief Executive

Where is life going? I can’t believe how fast the year is moving. Frankly the overwhelming challenge for me is to make sure that we publish our normal editions of Edges throughout the year. However, with the recession we have cut our coats according to our cloth. In our case we have only published Edges once this year, but I’m keen to get back to four editions. Watch this space.

To our 15,000 readers and sponsors of THOMAS throughout the UK and different parts of the world, what a year! Observant supporters will notice that THOMAS continues to grow from strength to strength. Our concepts are being developed in other places and our ideas continue to attract interest within the world of addiction recovery.

As a strategist in people development I have an infatuated interest in succeeding through innovation. A lot can happen on the road to addiction recovery. Many of our service users have found themselves in the deep waters of life without armbands; which gives us more reason to celebrate their exceptional successes. If you can get through drug and alcohol addiction and begin the process of manageability of life, you can make it work for you in other areas of life. This is because you have a fierce determination not to give up.

To our readers in prison – I say to you, If you want something badly enough, you can get it.  In the words of Winston Churchill “failure is not fatal.”  In fact I will even go as far as to say, you might be only a few steps away from your finest hour.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to watch prolific drug and alcohol offenders radically transform their lives and embrace the unprecedented moment of new opportunity and success.

Please continue to support our work.

Praises Total Abstinence Recovery

Our Chief Executive had an opportunity to question David Cameron on his views about drug and alcohol rehabilitation. This took place on 1st May 2009 on a visit to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph in Blackburn.

Mr Cameron said he was committed to getting more people off prescribed medication and into rehabilitation.

North West Student of the Year Nominee

Carl Molyneux came to THOMAS two years ago on release from HMP Lancaster Castle. He is now currently in the second year of a degree in Social Care, after completing his NVQ Level 3.

Carl was recently nominated for the North West Student of the Year and was one of three people to get to the final. Well done Carl.
