THOMAS Academy Blackpool

Liz Graham - Academy Co-ordinator

a multi-disciplinary approach to recovery from addiction

THOMAS Academy’s aim is to develop people beyond drugand alcohol treatment - so that they become socially smarter as they move from a toxic and debilitated culture (addiction) to embrace a culture of opportunity. The objective is to help individuals become the true creative force in their lives, overcoming in the process any obstacles that might stand between where they are and where they want to be.

THOMAS believes:

  • You have all the resources you need to be successful.

  • Change is not only possible but inevitable

The challenge for the THOMAS Academy is to make this a reality by offering a range of interventions offered weekly.

These include:

  • Personal key work

  • Psycho-social group therapy

  • Healthy living group work

  • Personal Counselling

The learning achieved with THOMAS can lead to a National Open College Network certificate.

THOMAS sees that there is an increasing need for “people development” beyond drug treatment.  This is a development that maximises the strengths of the individual so that people can continue the process of inner knowledge of self and learn new insights about their capabilities, unlocking the motivational resources for success.

THOMAS values the achievement of people who are committed to total abstinence in their own recovery. As part of developing an alternative total abstinent community, THOMAS is offering training to become a skilled recovery coach. These coaches will have developed their emotional and social intelligence so they can work with us to help others achieve and nurture human development beyond drug and alcohol treatment - promoting a total abstinence culture.

The Academy recognises that people can become “stuck” within their “world” and labelled because of past mistakes. It attempts to change the way society thinks about  people who were once addicted to drugs and alcohol. It provides the human intelligence that creates change and promotes success.

The Academy has an in-depth system of monitoring success. It focuses on each individual’s gradual acquisition of commitment and gives a comprehensive assessment of a person’s willingness to want to succeed. If you are committed to total abstinence, are interested in developing and supporting others and have been clean for at least 18 month, please contact:
