Insane Hardware

"This great overclocking device is one of the best on the market today. The FreeSpeed Pr v2.0 is an essential for any game Athlon owner wanting to get the best performance possible. With simplicity and elegance, this card does not let you down. It sure is staying in my rig for a long time to come! Although the dipswitches can be difficult to remember at times, you get use to it pretty quickly. Well done to Ninja Micros for what I consider THE BEST GOLD FINGER card on the market.

Kickassgear.com

The FreeSpeed Pro is the way to go to help keep costs down while overclocking your Athlon CPU as high as it will go.  And after all, the whole purpose of overclocking is to save money over buying the high-priced, higher speed Athlon CPUs.

The Tech Report

The bottom line
A solid, well-made card with some unique features.

Super7.net

If you like the thought of pushing your Athlon processor to the limit this may be the device you are looking for.  While at $65.00 USD it is a bit steeper than other "golden fingers' overclocking devices,  the price includes shipping to wherever you may be and comes with a lifetime guarantee.  Clear, easy to understand instructions are also a major plus.  I was never confused as how to proceed with this device and the Ninja Micros web site offers lots of great information.  As far as I'm concerned - THIS ONE'S DEFINITELY A KEEPER!

So, what is the bottom line?  The FreeSpeed Pro card worked extremely well and performed as I expected it to.  Let's cover the Pros and Cons...

Pros:

  • Very easy to use DIP switches
  • Small size
  • Power connector mounted to card
  • Actual PCB (no exposed wiring)
  • Good documentation

Cons:

  • Somewhat high price ($65, but it does include shipping charges anywhere in the world)
  • No L2 adjustment (just like all the other adapter cards....)

As you can see, the Pros outweigh the Cons by far and the Cons listed are pretty nit-picky.  Hey, I had to come up with something bad to say...  :-)  The FreeSpeed Pro card performed as advertised, is a compact design that looks well built, and is reasonably priced.  If you are looking for an excellent quality card to overclock your Athlon, the FreeSpeed Pro is a great choice.......

I don't see how you can go wrong by picking up one of these adapter cards for your shiny new Athlon.

For those of you who want to squeeze a bit more performance out of your Athlon, the FreeSpeed provides the most simple means to do so to date. The module is well designed, simple to use, durable, and includes a lifetime guarantee against mechanical failure. And importantly, it is not a home built prototype, but rather a production quality unit. Of course, you have to be willing and able to pry apart your CPU in order to use the FreeSpeed, which is a bit inconvenient, but because of the Athlon's design, it's the only way overclocking can be accomplished at this point, unless you happen to own one of the few motherboards that allows it. If you want to overclock the Athlon, the FreeSpeed is an excellent choice to make it happen.

Right now I'm running my Athlon 500 at 700MHz with a 1.65V core voltage. In raw megahertz, that's a 40% increase! With the FreeSpeed Pro and products like it on the market, Athlon overclocking is finally made easy. Changing the core voltage and clock speed settings are accomplished via the FreeSpeed's DIP switches, something reminiscent of days before Soft Menu.

So far, I have had nothing but good experiences with the FreeSpeed Pro, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to overclock their Athlon

So, you got yourself a shiny new AMD Athlon and you're just bursting at the seams to overclock that baby. Dreams of 800Mhz dancing in your head, you set the jumpers on your motherboard for the desired speed...only to find out that it doesn't work! No matter what setting you try, the Athlon refuses to go higher than stock speed. You just had a close encounter with the CPU lock.

I found FreeSpeed Pro the best of the Athlon overclocking devices I've seen so far. If you don't have an overclock capable Athlon motherboard, FreeSpeed Pro is the best way for you to get some free speed.

Verdict 8.5/10

At a price of $65 included shipping worldwide. I think it's one of the best cards you could buy for overclocking your Athlon.

Just wanted to let you know got my device and got 750@1.65 without any trying.  Once I get a chance to tweek it who knows.

Just thought i'd drop you a line to say thanks for producing the freespeed.

Placed it on my week45/99 Athlon 500 last night and overclocked the 600 core to 800Mhz!!! with the 3.3ns cache still running at 1/2 speed.  Had to push the voltage up to 1.8 for total stability but i have an Alpha 7125 strapped to the front to keep things cool.

Left the setup churning through RC5-64 all night and the system was still running cool this morning. (Approx 14hrs without a crash so far).

I think you made a very good card. My Athlon 500 core650 cache3,3 runs 750 and I have not tried 800 yet??

Got my board yesterday (my mate ordered two one for each of us). What can I say fantastic. My week 40 (I think, the number is 219940017061) Athlon 500 runs perfectly at 700 1.65V. I can't get more but that brilliant.

Freespeed arrived safe and sound this AM.  Running seti all day @ 824mhz. Awesome for 3.3 cache. Thanks.  I am very pleased to say the least.

Well I got my  FreeSpeed Pro yesterday. My week 44 w/650 core -3.1ns went right up to 750 using 1.7v. I played with the fsb as I have a K7M and can get 105x7.5=787.5 which posts as 800 during boot. All I can say is great job,  now for a geForce DDR =)

For some days ago i ordered by power computing your amazing free speed pro today after one hour work and install my 500 athlon week 21   works at 700 Mhz 1.60 v. Whow your are the craziest guys on earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a super super tool i hope it is the next time all is ok

Happiest New Millenium to you!  Got the FreeSpeed, built the system, everything is running GREAT. I've currently got my athlon 500 running at 750Mhz @ 1.65V.  Haven't tried to push it harder yet

I thank you very much to make this great product for my use! I got my Athlon 500 running 750 frst try ,,,,,so what can I say ........ thank you -great stuff

Well. Today the card arrived and I plugged it in immediately.
Seems to work.

To be honest (and somewhat more enthusiastic): I'm running my
Athlon 500 (week 43) at 700 Mhz now, without even increasing
core voltage or using any special cooling!!! :-)

Maybe I should go for more, but I'm not sure.
Works really nice and stable at the moment.

Great stuff!

Today I got the Freespeed card and my Week 43 Athlon 500 is running rock stable at 750 for several hours now, doing various Benchmarks, with the voltage at 1.7.

My Athlon 500MHz is running now at 833MHz. Fully stabile, even with case on. Well, I try to reach the 850MHz, but I have to put copperplates over the cachechips, and make better cooling for the chipset. I'll post more, if I reach the 850MHz.

Your FreeSpeed card is really good. Very small, and professional-looking.

Just a short note to let you know of my success with your Freespeed Pro card. I received my Athlon 500 yesterday (week 47) and built all successfully. Case removal was not easy, as one of the pins appeared to be glued (it snapped off. Definitely a voided warranty!!) However, now all is fitted and immediately overclocked to 700 @ normal core voltage. This ran without a hitch, so upped it to 750. Again worked fine. Upped to 800 (normal 1/2 cache divider intact). I only have a normal Coolermaster cooler, so after 30 mins running @ 800 (Yes, 800 at stock 1.6 volts), it hung. Clocked it back down to 700 and now works absolutely beautifully. Hope to get a bigger cooler soon and go after the 848 record.

I received the FreeSpeed card yesterday.  I overclocked my Athlon 500 to 700 Mhz at 1.6 volts.  My system is super-fast and very stable.  Thank you very much!!

I made few improvements and now I have a rock solid 500@832 :) I placed little spacers between L2 chips and hot plate so I can use 104 MHz FSB now. I also increased coreV to 1.85
Hi Fluke,

I thought I just let you know of my success without really trying: (Gigabyte GA-7IX, core-volt.1,6).

With a good cooler (VOS32 from Frozen Silicon) I plan to reach 800MHz, although I can't overclock the GA-board like an ASUS.

P.S. For opening the Athlon I used a bottle of wine instead your recommended Tipex thinner. Works perfectly!

My speed card arrived today. It works very fine. 650MHz from an original 500Mhz processor.

Thank you very,very much!!!

I got it(FreeSpeed) today, and my Athlon runs stable at 8 x 100, vcore 1.8v  :)
