Scorpion Oceanics Limited was formed by the present Board of Directors to provide the Offshore and Nuclear Industries with an efficient, competitive and reliable source of cables, connectors, ropes, terminations and mouldings for use in harsh environments.

The company’s operations are based on four main activities;

  1. termination and overmoulding of cables and connectors,
  2. supply of cables and high modulus fibre ropes as agents for Cortland Cable Company Inc. of Cortland, USA and Puget Sound Rope Inc. of Anacortes, USA,
  3. supply of metal shelled, glass reinforced epoxy and rubber moulded underwater electrical connectors as agents on behalf of Birns Inc, Oxnard, USA.
  4. supply of Jupiter and Souriau Underwater and Nuclear Electrical Connectors for Souriau Connection Technology.

Scorpion Oceanics activities are centred around the following markets

Much of the work undertaken involves the use of polyurethane for overmoulding and encapsulation. The Company employs several types of polyurethane castomer systems, each one being chosen according to the type of substrate, application and location. Scorpion Oceanics introduced polyethylene moulding and encapsulation in the summer of 1999. Skilled termination technicians are available to undertake work in-house, on-site or offshore.

The Company employs CAD facilities for the design of connectors and termination systems. Many strain terminations have been designed and supplied for tow cables and ROV main lift umbilicals etc. Some of these systems incorporate integral universal joints allowing the required movement of the termination at critical times such as deployment and recovery, whilst the cable connection remains stress free. Terminations are typically supplied in 316 Stainless Steel, Titanium and Marine Bronze. Cables incorporating optical fibres are regularly terminated with proprietary connectors and purpose designed strain terminations.

With nearly 50 years combined experience in these industries, we know what customers expect and it has always been our policy to provide products and services that delight. Scorpion Oceanics operate a Quality Management System approved by BM Trada to BS EN ISO 9001:2000. All design and manufacturing is carried out at the company’s facility in North West Essex, which is adjacent to the M11 Motorway, between Cambridge and London Stansted Airport.
