A Moral tale!

Two or three years ago, a famous marine painter told me my ship paintings were actually a waste of time as they didn't really have any style and were far too 'finicky and detailed' and I ought to take the time to go and look at some 'real' marine paintings. He continued by telling me my water 'didn't look wet', that 'waves don't look like that' and so on.  He must have wondered at my absolute silence whilst this diatribe went on.  Finally, when he stopped to draw breath I just picked up my pictures and never went near him or his marine painter friends again!  The moral of this little tale is simple.  Do your own thing. Do what pleases YOU!  Nobody pays me for my pictures - I do them for fun, simply because I find the making of them a release from normal daily pressures and as some sort of therapeutic safety valve. I have never pretended to be a 'marine painter' as I am not really an artist in the true sense of the word.  Because my hand and eyes happen to work in harmony, that does not make me an 'artist'.  I merely record either what I see or imagine, in whatever medium I fancy. It's as simple as that.  If you, the viewer, find pleasure in my pictures, then that's just great, because this is about the only entertainment I can offer, as I can neither sing nor dance for you!
