We
planned our trip so that we could follow the waves and not
be tied down by a strict itinerary. Put simply, our route
was: UK > South
Africa > Australia > New
Zealand > Fiji > USA > UK
*
TIP
We
chose the countries but it was really the travel agent
who decided what order we would visit them in and gave
us our final route. We bought a round the world airline
ticket, and when you buy this sort of ticket you can
only fly in one direction around the world. There's
no flying back against your general direction of travel
like we wanted to do!
Buying
a round the world ticket is by far the cheapest way
to get your airfares. The flights that we booked were
all easy to change, which was just as well because we
ended up missing a few! Shop around for the best deal.

We
wanted to be able to go wherever we wanted, whenever we wanted.
The one advance accommodation booking that we made on our
entire trip was for our first night in Cape Town.
