Oleanna
is set to enrage, shock and stimulate audiences at
Bangors Theatr Gwynedd this February. The most
controversial show in recent years has recently been
adapted to Welsh for a premiere performance by Cwmni
Theatr Gwynedd. It is now the turn of Welsh theatregoers to decide for themselves on the controversial themes raised by this lively, topical drama, based on the issue of alleged sexual harrassement. David Mamets play triggers an explosive cocktail of powerful emotions as Carol (Bethan Ellis Owen), a struggling student, pursues claims of sexual misconduct against her professor, John (Phil Reid). Her plea for help escalates into a complete breakdown of communication between a man and a woman caught up in the current of sexual politics. In Oleanna, Mamets argument polarises the two forces and invites audiences to decide who has the power and where the truth lies. But whichever version we prefer, it is impossible to see this play and not recognise the relationship between power and sex. Mamet is best known for screen plays which include The Untouchables, House of Games, The Postman Always Rings Twice and Glengarry Glen Ross. This exciting production is the first David Mamet play to be directed by Sian Summers, Artistic Director at Theatr Gwynedd and designed by Chris Green. Young or old come with your partner and see if your relationship survives the evening. The production will be staged at Theatr Gwynedd, Bangor from Thursday 11 February - Saturday 20 February at 7.30pm and with special offers ranging from £5 tickets for all under 25, 2 for 1 and a special Saturday night offer for this production and Theatr Gwynedds next production "Dyn Hysbys", this is a performance you cant afford to miss.
