The Many Faces of Adrian Spendlow

Performance Poet Adrian Spendlow who originally was a psychiatric nurse now travels widely for gigs from his York home entertaining a wide range of audiences. From festivals to community work he can be seen involving the audience in an unforgettable experience

His specially commissioned ‘Poetry Adventures’ are very popular with children and adults and he works widely in schools, libraries, museums and festivals. Adrian believes that poetry can be taken anywhere. As well as his popularity among children he also works widely with older people creating lively shows in poetry and song from their memories, which are all available as books. He is, perhaps, best known for his festival work where as host he writes an introductory poem for each act. He is intriguing solo and his work with music is amazing even if only for its wide range; Adrian has worked with over a dozen different combinations of musicians in the past six months; a selection of these professional acts are available as part of Adrian’s current touring schedule.

Latest news includes, Adrian’s first national publication Poemspotters, (an exciting new publication from Hopscotch Educational Publishing featuring around 30 poem forms and over 200 creative ideas), children’s letters and poems, Two Adrian Poems, courtesy of Nick of the Open Universities Poetry Society and Cathedral School at Ripon Festival. There is also news on writing weekends: Inner Landscapes, that worked so well for the OU weekend is now available (Adrian with Sharon Emery), featuring, writing for performance, search for song, creating a place and a whole new line in creative energy for you to take away with you. Adrian’s book The Ghost Show contains drama poetry based on his mother’s first hand experiences and acts as a tour of York in a book or a live show. Adrian is also working on a new album with Willow Songsmith and the live DVD of SPENDLOW will be available shortly, in fact a TV Producer is champing at the bit for a copy. “This man has got to be on television - he is something totally new and has a marketable face”

Adrian ‘Melds’

Adrian is a unique poet who blends wonderfully with music and performance. When mixing his spoken word with the work of well respected singer/songwriters people frequently say, “Adrian – You are a singer!” Audiences are generally spellbound and thoroughly entertained. He is currently available through Bright Light Arts with a wide selection of professional musicians.

These currently include: Julie Ellison, Dave Moss of Banoffi, Nick Hall of the Hall Brothers, Em Whitfield, Dave Carley, James Christie (Deep Heat), Willow Songsmith (Weaving With Willow), Jon Harvison, Alex Kirby, Satnum Singh, and Dan Webster. Adrian has also worked recently with Celtarabia and Martin Fletcher’s Usual Suspects and would very much like to repeat the experience with your help.
