Smoking Cessation

Most – if not all – smokers are fully aware of the risks of smoking, in terms of their health.

However, many still find it very difficult to stop, and many have tried on a number of occasions.

At Better Health Clinic, Chester, we have a number of experts on hand to help those who want to stop smoking.

And there are a number of possible treatment options available to those who want to stop.

A recent survey carried out at Better Health Clinic showed that nearly 30% of our patients were smokers.

The two therapies that have been found to me most useful for those wanting to stop smoking are Acupuncture and Hypnotherapy, and both are available at the Clinic.   Further information on Acupuncture in smoking cessation is available overleaf, and further details on both therapies are available on our website.

However, we also offer a unique product – known as Ciban – which will also help enormously.   Further information on Ciban – which is a natural and safer alternative to the drug Zyban – may be found overleaf.

Our experts at the Clinic will help you choose the option that is the best for your particular needs.   It is possible to make use of any or all of the treatment options concurrently, and this gives a higher chance than normal for success.

Further information on smoking cessation, the various therapies and products available may be found on our website – www.betterhealth.ltd.uk .

Smoking is associated with a number of risk factors for ill-health that we can test for.   For example, many smokers are deficient in nutrients, particularly Vitamin C, and we can test this easily at the Clinic with our Vitamin and Mineral test.

In addition, smokers are at higher risk of developing osteoporosis, and we can also test for this condition at the Clinic.   Please see our previous newsletter (February 2003) for further details regarding the osteoporosis test.

FREE Vitamin and Mineral Test – for smokers

During March we have a special offer on the Vitamin & Mineral Assessment for smokers, available FREE OF CHARGE instead of the usual £45.

Vitamin and Mineral Assessment – offer extended.

Vitamin and mineral assessment is an important factor in the assessment of patients who smoke.   Smoking puts you at risk of developing deficiencies in many nutrients, particularly vitamin C and zinc, and also the anti-oxidant nutrients that are used to reverse damage caused by smoking.

Further information about the Vitamin and Mineral test, including its many uses, and who it may benefit, may be found on our website – www.betterhealth.ltd.uk.

As part of our promotion, we are offering FREE Vitamin and Mineral Assessment to everyone who smokes, or those wanting to stop smoking.   The normal cost of the test is £45.   Book during March to make sure that you can take advantage of this exceptional offer.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the better known therapies, and in fact has been in use for over 4,000 years.

Acupuncture originated in the East – in China and Japan, and it is only fairly recently that it has been brought to the West.

Many people don’t relish the thought of having needles stuck into them, but the actual needles used in Acupuncture are very fine, and are a far cry from needles used for blood tests and injections.

Acupuncture is very rarely painful.   There may be a sensation felt when the needle penetrates the skin, but sometimes nothing can be felt at all.

When the Acupuncture needles are stimulated by turning, there is a characteristic sensation, which may be felt as a heaviness, or an ache, or sometimes a tingling or numbness.

This is caused by the flow of energy to the Acupuncture point.

Special Offer on Acupuncture treatments

During March we will be offering Acupuncture at HALF PRICE – only £12.50 per treatment!

Acupuncture can be used for a large number of conditions.

It is used in Smoking Cessation, and is one of the best ways to stop smoking.   Usually in Smoking Cessation, needles are placed in the ear, and special needles may be used that will be retained in the ear for a number of days, or even weeks.

These may be pressed from time to time, when the urge to smoke is at its greatest, or there are withdrawal symptoms, and this will reduce the cravings or the symptoms.

Acupuncture of course may be used for a number of other conditions, and further information may be found at the Clinic, or on the website www.betterhealth.ltd.uk .

This is what many of our patients have said about our treatment regimes for a number of conditions.   Acupuncture has been an important part of our treatment for these conditions:

“I would like to say thank you as my arthritis has improved so much I still can’t quite believe it, particularly my knees, which have been getting steadily worse for the last twenty years

 - KS, Chester, with arthritis

Better Health also provides a number of advanced nutritional, herbal and homoeopathic medicines, and these are recommended if required.   They are extremely effective in correcting deficiencies and may help also with a number of health conditions and symptoms.

To book your Acupuncture session, or for further information contact the clinic on (01244) 322822.

Ciban

Ciban is a phytonutrient – a combination of herbs and nutrients – used to help people stop smoking.

Ciban is available as capsules, and the dosage needs to be adjusted from person to person.

The best way of using the product is to start with a dosage of 1 or 2 capsules taken at intervals three times a day.   If the dosage is adequate, then any cigarettes smoked during the day will cause nausea, and if continued will lead to vomiting.

It is important to find the correct dosage for the capsules.   Too little and the product will be ineffective;  too much and it will cause nausea by itself.

The product combines the herb Lobelia (Lobelia inflata) with high dose vitamin C.

Combining these ingredients synergistically in this formulation, it is no wonder that this product has gained a good reputation for use in helping people stop smoking.

Ciban is normally available at the Better Health Clinic, Chester, for £8.50, and are only available after a consultation with a herbalist.

Special Offer on Ciban during March

          Single tub - £7.50 (normally £8.50)

            Or £18 for 3 tubs – only £6 each!

Ciban should not be taken in pregnancy, but there are no other contra-indications to its use, although you will need a consultation with a herbalist.

Ciban may be combined with other smoking cessation methods, and is ideal to use alongside Acupuncture or Hypnotherapy.

It should not be taken in conjunction with nicotine patches, or any other nicotine replacement methods, as this is likely to cause nausea and vomiting.

Ciban is obviously much safer than the medical alternative Zyban, which has been available for a few years on prescription for smoking cessation.

Zyban has been associated with serious side-effects, and is not suitable for everyone.

Further details are available on the website – www.betterhealth.ltd.uk or from Better Health Clinic on (01244) 322822.
