About Clach Mhuilinn

Your hosts, Jacqi and Iain Elmslie, have lived at Clach Mhuilinn since 1979 but have altered it over the years to suit guests' requirements. In fact, in the beginning, so much was spent on it that it became the proverbial "millstone around our necks", hence the name "Clach Mhuilinn" which means "millstone" in Gaelic!

Iain is an architectural technologist, working from home and has a great interest in history and things Scottish. Jacqi loves gardening and will happily give you a plant cutting on request - she does not guarantee to always remember the latin names for plants! The children, Rachel and James, were small when we moved here but are now fully fledged with their own lives to lead. We have been offering B&B for 24 years and have enjoyed sharing our home with people from all over the world. Our aim is to help make your holiday in Scotland a truly memorable and pleasurable experience.

The house, a large modern detached in a lovely garden, is situated in a pleasant residential area about a quarter of a mile from Inverness Golf Course and 1 mile south of Inverness city centre. Halfway into town is a pub providing excellent evening meals and there are several others within the same distance. In the city are many other eating places to suit most preferences and a taxi will cost about 4 UK pounds if you don't want to take the pleasant 20 minute walk.

There is a coin-operated laundromat in Inverness, open Monday to Saturday and a variety of shops open six or in some cases seven days a week. The Tourist Information Centre, open every day in summer, can help you book coach tours around Loch Ness, to Culloden Battlefield, Cawdor Castle or trips to see the Moray Firth dolphins. We have lots of tourist information leaflets here but there are, of course, more in the TIC.

We have maps you can borrow for touring the local area by car or detailed walking maps and we are always delighted to share our tips on where to go and what to see. Have a look at our "To see and do" section for some ideas - you may decide to stay a little longer when you discover how much there is to see!

We are members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme with a Bronze award and hope to get to a Silver level before too long. This means that we have a policy of caring for and trying not to adversely affect the environment, saving energy and water if possible and using local produce whenever we can. If you like to see birds and wildlife then we can point you in the right direction and have lots of useful books to help you identify whatever you discover.
