VISUAL
ARTS - Andrew Tyzack - Painting & Drawing, Lockington
- East Riding, Yorkshire
Course: 2-5 Day
This visual arts course starts with tuition in basic
drawing and painting techniques in the studio of
Andrew Tyzack, based in the picturesque village
of Lockington, at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds:
CHARCOAL DRAWING
Working in charcoal from an ancient charcoal kiln
in nearby Millington Woods, participants have the
chance to draw at night-time--an extremely rare
experience. The changes from twilight to dark will
produce idiosyncratic drawings, which will be hung
and developed in the studio the next day.
PAINTING IN WATERCOLOURS
The village of Lockington is favoured by many artists
as subject for painting and drawing. With its flowing
"beck" (stream), surrounded by fields, and with
the focus of its Saxon/Norman church, the village
location offers participants the chance to discover
"outside" techniques of watercolour painting.
DRAWING AND PAINTING
Immersed in the tactile experience of the sounds,
smells and sights of British farming, (and free
from weather restraints), participants will choose
a barnyard animal as subject for drawing and painting.
Artist:
Andrew Tyzack
Andrew
Tyzack studied Fine Art at the Royal College of
Art, and paints portraits and animals. He says,
"Fine Art is a rigorous training that produces analytical
artists. Animal Painting seems to me to be about
getting under the skin of the animals and discovering
something about their poetry."
Andrew grew up surrounded by countryside and farms.
As a child, he spent much time with his grandfather,
who kept a sheep flock and small beef herd in Northumberland.
His fascination with the animals started at an early
age.
His portrait work has been commissioned by the National
Theatre, and is represented in the National Portrait
Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Theatre Museum.
