    Bronchiectasis

Bronchiectasis is a chronic debilitating respiratory condition that is characterised by recurrent infections and progressive breathlessness.

It usually affects people later in life, but can affect young adults also.   It may be brought on following severe lung infections in early life or teenage years, particularly when this is left untreated for long periods.

Conventional treatment is usually based upon the aggressive treatment of acute infections, bronchodilators or inhalers for breathlessness and specialised physiotherapy known as postural drainage to prevent the build up of mucus or secretions in the airways.

Whilst this usually effectively deals with the symptoms, and with the acute infective episodes, it can often deplete the immune system and leave patients feeling drained and open to other problems.

Bronchiectasis will have been diagnosed by your doctor following investigations such as lung function tests and a chest X-ray.

A sudden worsening of the condition should always be assessed by a medical doctor, as other complicating factors may be involved such as pneumonia, or pneumothorax (which is a 'leakage' of air from the lungs into the chest cavity).

Once the condition has been diagnosed correctly, and is supervised by a medical practitioner, then there may be much that may be done by the complementary and alternative practitioner in alleviating the condition and even dealing with underlying factors that may be contributing.

    How Can We Help?

We offer a caring, alternative approach to your needs.

We specialise in Complementary & Alternative Medicine, and there are a number of approaches that can help.

Each person is dealt with individually. Each person’s needs are different. The actual treatment will vary from person to person.

There are a number of factors that may aggravate the condition, and these include stress, allergies, or poor immunity.   These need to be considered and dealt with as necessary.

We usually recommend a number of tests to evaluate the condition, and to exclude these aggravating factors.

Following an initial assessment, or a free initial consultation (may not be available at some Clinics), a recommendation will be made regarding suitable tests or treatment.

    What Tests Do You Need?

A number of tests may be of benefit, including the following:

    • Full Body Screening
    • Allergy Test
    • Vitamin and Mineral Test

We usually recommend a Vitamin and Mineral test for most of our patients, as vitamin or mineral deficiencies can contribute to many health problems.

It is not always necessary to carry out any tests in Bronchiectasis, as it may be possible to obtain good relief from the symptoms with a number of approaches.

    What Advice Do You Get?

The actual advice given depends on the individual.

Dietary changes may be useful, and food sensitivities occasionally play a part in the condition.   Milk and dairy sensitivity is common in general, and it is wise to try avoiding these completely from the diet prior to or when starting a course of treatment.

The actual treatments recommended will depend on the underlying factors predisposing to the condition. Acupuncture, Reflexology, VacuPressure or even Hypnotherapy may be useful.

Nutritional, herbal and homoeopathic medicines can also be very effective. These may be used to improve the condition and to reduce the dosage and amount of conventional drugs required, for example in controlling breathlessness, or treating infections,  and so on.

A comprehensive treatment programme – based on the therapies discussed above – is recommended during your consultations.

    How Successful Is Our Treatment?

Our treatment programmes are usually very successful. We often succeed where others have failed.

The reason for this is due to the tests carried out – which enables us to tailor the treatments according to the specific needs of the individual – and also due to the experience we have gained over the years together with the efficacy of our unique, specialised products – herbal, homoeopathic and nutritional.

Most – if not all – of our patients have benefited from out treatment programmes. Individual treatment programmes may be complex, and may need some commitment to follow successfully. Dietary changes together with a number of supplements, herbal and / or homoeopathic medicines to take every day, together with weekly treatments may be required for a period of at least 10 – 12 weeks.

    How Much Does it Cost?

It is impossible to estimate the cost in any individual person, as the treatment recommended will vary from person to person.

The tests that may be required also vary in cost, and further information may be found together with information relating to each specific test.

The costs of individual therapies and products also differ, and you should refer to current price lists, or make enquiries at the Clinic.

We always offer a FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION, and further information regarding cost may be discussed at this time.

(Free consultations may not be available at all the Clinics we visit.)
