HERMITAGE CASTLE

Scene of one of the most romantic episodes in scottish history. It was to here that Mary Queen of Scot's rode on a very miserable day some 60 miles from her residence in Jedburgh. She had rode out to see the injured Bothwell. On her return that same day to Jedburgh she was taken ill and upon the occassion of her execution she remarked that she wished she had died that day in Jedburgh.
