Useful Books

1) 'Behavioural Intervention for Young Children with Autism: A Manual for Parents and Professionals' by Catherine Maurice, Gina Green and Stephen C. Luce (ISBN number 0-89079-683-1) published by Pro-Ed, Austin, TX USA. It can be obtained via Taskmaster Limited, Morris Road, Leicester. Tel : 0116 2704286. It was priced at £28.50 and ordered by credit card in July 1997.

This is our main handbook and started us off. It is easy to read and gives a lot of information about Behavioural Therapy as well as comments about the effectiveness of other kinds of 'treatments' for autism. It has a number of very useful programmes. We would be lost without it!

2) 'Let me Hear your Voice' by Catherine Maurice published by Robert Hale, London

This describes how Catherine Maurice set up and ran her own home programme. It is written like a story.

3) Dr Lovaas published 'Teaching Developmentally Disabled Children. The ME Book' in the early 1980s but is now currently rewriting his book and it is due to be published at the end of the year.

4) 'The World of the Autistic Child' by Bryna Siegel published by Oxford University Press. A very good account of the 'understanding and treatment of autistic spectrum disorders' and the end result of twelve years of treating children in this area. My wife found this a very informative book!
