Training of Tutors

It is very important for parents and tutors to be trained in order that they can be as effective as possible. It is of course possible to read the books and go ahead without any training if there is no other option. We did start off that way but we found that training made us much more aware of what could be done and what should be done for our son's programme of Behavioural Therapy. We now try to organise for any of our new tutors at least one introductory training day plus several sessions of observation of an experienced tutor, before they do any tutoring themselves. We also lend them a video of our workshop in July in addition to various notes.

We also think that the weekly meeting of tutors is an important training opportunity as well as well as being essential for  co-ordinating Paul's programme. Training needs to be ongoing, of course, and we envisage regular training days every few months.

Courses and Conferences

Course Report on 'An Introductory Course to Behavioural Therapy' on Saturday 21st February 1998

The Course was very well attended and those who attended found it very useful. Those attending included teachers, tutors and psychologists. According to the feedback forms, those attending found the demonstration of a tutor in action with an autistic child the best part of the day. They were all (except one), interested in finding out more about Behavioural Therapy. They also liked the lunch! The Course Leader did an excellent job in explaining the topic and answered numerous questions. I would like to thank everybody who helped make the course a success.

We are thinking of holding another course in the next few months.
