Why Behavioural Intervention?

Why we chose Behavioural Intervention

We chose Behavioural Therapy because it seemed to offer the only hope of substantial improvement in our autistic son. Dr. Lovaas has done clinical trials of this therapy with autistic children and approximately 50% of the trial group who were all under 5 years at the beginning and who had 40 hours of therapy for a number of years, were eventually able to go to mainstream school. The other 50% made substantial improvement.

We did not see anything else which offered the same proven progress with autistic children. I spent a long time doing research (mainly using the Internet) and found a number of items which seemed to offer almost 'miracle cures' but nothing which had undergone successful clinical trials like those of Dr. Lovaas. (The only other areas which seemed to offer some possibilities were vitamin supplements and casein and gluten free diets.)

Look at the numerous Internet sites in the USA. A few of these can be seen on Internet Links and these sites have links to probably a hundred other sites. Good surfing!
