Indoor Jumping Trials

The month kicked-off with the first round of the National Indoor Jumping Trials at Haverfordwest. The Gower team of five comprised three Clyn Du residents: Oliver, Sonny and Katie.

Oliver De Gray was ridden by Bobby and jumped like a dream. Sonnet (Sonny) was ridden by Rhian and went clear in every round. Wysiwyg (Katie) was ridden by Alexa and, despite the pressure of jumping first every time, she came up trumps and cleared everything.

As the month draws to an end, Bobby's sites are set on The Pembrey Horse Trials. She does not enter any horses as she designs the course and runs the competition. Instead, she spends hours building fences and making sure the paper work is in order. The event is one of the biggest in the West Wales area and attracts entries from all over Britain. One of Bobby's tasks is to seek out stabling for horses whose owners need to travel the day before. Luckily, the trials are on April 2nd and the weather is usually mild enough to ensure most horses are living out, thus releasing valuable stable space.

Although we are still in the grip of winter - so far in West Wales it has been wet and windy rather than cold - thoughts are turning to spring and plans for the new year. Two of Bobby's mares will go to stud this spring and hopefully produce a couple of competition prospects. Meanwhile, the living-in routine continues... how many tuns of manure can 13 stabled horses produce in a week...!!!
