This month sees a return to work for the Caredigion equestrian students who train at Clyn Du. It also marks the end of the competition/eventing season. Bobby and Rhian are travelling to Malvern next weekend (September 11th) with Jen and Ziggy.
Ziggy, alias Mayfair's First, has been in light work throughout the summer due to a hock injuries picked up in June. Rhian has been putting him though his paces and hopes he will be fit for the event.
Poor Ziggy has had a miserable summer; on top of his hock injury he has had a dose of sunburn on his sensitive nose. It healed quickly, though, with Bobby's magic ointment!
Bobby and Rhian both qualified for the Malvern National Riding CLub Event, held at The Three Counties Showground at Malvern and rode Magenta and Mayfair's First respectively (Jen adn Ziggy).
Bobby had an early start on Jen and performed an excellent dressage test in the early morning dew. She finished 2nd - a sterling performance in a national competition.
Rhian was riding later but still had to negotiate slippery conditions around 10 am. Ziggy did well, despite slipping in canter.
Bobby had to ride in the rider's test as a substitute and Jen was not in a co-operative mood! Bobby did well, though, and picked up 33 points, finishing 6h overall.
The event took palce on September 12th, 1999
The Gower Derby, held at Parkmill, Gower, was a fun event, with jumping being the main event. On an unexpectedly sunny day, Oliver and Sonny made the journey over the bridge (Louchor, not Severn!) to compete. Despite the very wet conditions, both horses performed well. Sonny, in oly his third competition, jumped well and is beginning to enjoy the high life! Oliver, also comparatively new to competing, came home with a second in the jumping and a third in the derby.
