December 1999

Although the weather had been characteristically mild this month, it has been wetter than usual and that causes problems for a riding centre. Not only do the native ponies come in dirty - they are wet as well! The stabled horses have been clipped and the poor weather conditions have made it difficult for them to be out for long.

Training of the youngsters continues and Teddy is now well-schooled and even canters on the right lead, clever boy!, Rhian's horse, Charisma, is now being ridden on the lunge and responds well to voice aids.

Rhian and Adrian have been having jumping lessons with Eric Winter. Adrian is preparing his mare, Katie, for next season's eventing and Rhian is bringing out Sonny's potential. He began competition work this year and enjoyed every minute of it!

Riding lessons continue up until Christmas Eve and then Bobby and the team take a well-earned week's break - well, there's still the stables to muck-out and the ponies to check and the horses to turn out and...!

Meanwhile, Bobby's son Stuart is home from Kadakstan where he has been working as part of a team of engineers contracted to teach the locals how to service their heavy vehicles. He has been away for 5 months working in sub-zero temperatures and is now raring to start on projects at Clyn Du!
