Clyn Du welcomed a new arrival this month: Rough and Ready, affectionately called Lucas, is a new livery at the yard. Lucas is a 15.3hh bright bay TBx gelding owned by Meinir Phillips. Meinir formerly kept her mare, Minnie, at the yard but Minnie has retired to Meinir's farm. Lucas, meanwhile, has settled in well and is enjoying the attention of all the mares!
As the competition year gets under way, Bobby is feverishly preparing for the Pembrey Horse Trials. The trials take place biannually at Pembrey Country Park, Llanelli, and there are three classes: pre-novice, novice and intermediate. Entrants will do a dressage test, show jumping and cross-country. Bobby has been busy building jumps and dealing with the paperwork generated by the event.
Winter 1999-2000 has been wet and mild in West Wales. by mid-March the stabled horses were being turned out without their rugs on fine days and by the end of the month they will live out. Life is harder on the yard when the horses are stabled so all staff are looking forward to the end of the winter. Apart from the extra work generated, the horses have a better quality of life when out, aleviating boredom.
