Detoxification Profile The liver is responsible for processing toxins, neutralising and processing those toxins for elimination from the body. There are two phases to detoxification. Phase I detoxification involves the chemical processing of toxins breaking them down by various chemical processes. Phase II detoxification involves the processing of toxins ready for elimination, either through the bile or through the kidneys. Problems with liver detoxification results in increased levels of circulating toxins in the body. Inadequately or completely unprocessed toxins are not eliminated easily from the body, and eventually leads to toxins being stored in the fatty tissues in the body, including the brain and central nervous system. Stored toxins are slowly released into the circulation, and may contribute to many chronic illnesses. A number of conditions may affect the liver, including repeated exposure to chemical toxins in food, water and the environment in general. A leaky gut (caused by bowel dysbiosis or Candidiasis) leads to increased amounts of toxins including undigested food molecules being absorbed from the bowel into the body which can overload the livers ability to process toxins. Who Should Have the Test? The test is available to everyone. If you answer yes to 2 or more of the following questions, then you may be exposed to increased levels of toxins and should consider having this test:
If you did answer yes to two or more of the above, then it could be argued that they should have the test every 12 - 24 months. How Is It Done? The Detoxification Profile is carried out by collecting a saliva and urine sample, and sending this to the laboratory for analysis. The test uses common substances to challenge the livers detoxification ability. You simply swallow the tablets, collect urine and saliva samples and return the test in the envelope provided. Results are available within 14 21 days, and we usually arrange a follow-up appointment at the Clinic a month after the test has been sent. Alternatively test results can be sent to you by post, and a follow-up telephone call can be made to a practitioner who can discuss the results with you and recommend further treatment as appropriate. How Accurate are the Results? The results are very accurate. We use a laboratory in the United States that provides high quality tests and results, and is accredited by a number of agencies. They are well established in their field, and have pioneered a number of tests for over 15 years. There are no tests currently available in the UK that provides this comprehensive type of assessment. What Advice Do You Get?Full explanation is given of the test results and any advice recommended. The test will provide a comprehensive assessment of Phase I and Phase II detoxification, and advice can be given to improve both phases as necessary. The various treatments advised by Better Health include nutritional, herbal and homoeopathic medicines, and the actual treatments recommended will depend very much on the results of the tests carried out. How Much Does it Cost? The current cost of the Detoxification Profile is £125. A carriage charge may be additional for shipping to the laboratory. Further charges apply for any further consultations, tests or treatments, and these will be discussed with you fully as necessary. © Better Health Limited 2002 |
