BARFORD HOUSE DEVELOPMENT :
As you may be aware, there have been previous proposals to develop the site on Wellesbourne Road, next to Barford House. Public consultation was carried out in 2005 and an outline scheme was included within the Village Plan.
Sharba Homes is a family-run housebuilder that produces unique residential property developments in select locations across the South Midlands and Cotswolds. Each of their developments is specifically designed to the highest standards to complement and enhance the local character and address local needs.
The company is keen to move forward with ideas for such a housing development on this 13 acre site. These could include some new homes for local people seeking affordable and/or sheltered accommodation together with some community facilities and recreational or amenity space.
Sharba Homes would like to hear what the local community thinks about such a development at this early stage in their thinking. The team want to ensure that they have identified all the issues and constraints that should be considered and ask for suggestions about what might be included in the proposals before working up a more detailed scheme which in due course would be submitted to the planning authority. ABC has been appointed to organise and oversee this consultation.
ABC will be holding two consultation events in the village. The first will be an informal drop-in session to give members of the local community a chance to meet the Sharba team, to find out how they are approaching the master planning of this site and to invite comments and discussion. A follow-up event is planned for later in the year so that people can see how their comments have been responded to and view more worked up proposals for the site.
The initial consultation session will take place on Monday 14th July from 2pm – 7pm in Barford Memorial Hall.
On arrival you will be able to view some display material and talk through any issues or questions face-to-face with members of the Sharba team. There will also be an opportunity to give written comments which will fed back to the team to help inform their ongoing design and planning work.

MID-SUMMER NOTES :
This summer Mid Summer Notes actually took place under cover, in St Peter's Church, which is the first time in the last seven or eight years, that we have been rained off.
But in fact it proved to be a huge success because the sound was absolutely magical.
We are so fortunate in Barford to have so much young talent. And talent which our young people wish to share with us. The music they brought to us was beautiful, varied and inspired. Well done to Michael Dunnett-Stone who played jazz piano, Matthew Partridge – piano and bassoon, Isobel Williams and Matthew Johnston – Violin, Hannah Bridges – violin, Mark Williams – Oboe and piano.
Our verse was given with much feeling by Jane Scott, Christine McBeath, and Roger Clay. Janet Cave of Champagne Flutes enchanted us with her beautiful playing; it was her first public performance after damaging her wrist in a fall earlier this year.
Our solo singers Wendy Barlow and Mike Burman excelled and the Choir provided an energetic finale to the concert. Paul Williams was a star and supported all the performers with his fine accompanying.
Very many thanks to Jan Bradley, my family and friends for organising the catering so well upon a last minute change of venue.
A great total of £550 was raised for NSPKU and the Shop Fund.
Well done everyone!

CHALLENGE BIKE RIDE IN AID OF MYTON HOSPICE :
Andrea Williams, a former Barford resident of 15 years from 8 Hemmings Mill, is undertaking a sponsored cycle ride for Myton Hospice as part of ‘The Challenge’ bike ride.. As a member of a group of about 30 the ride will take her through Thailand and Cambodia, overall covering 600 km in seven days, about 50 miles a day.
She has wanted to do this kind of challenge for many years now. When recently a very close friend died of cancer, Andrea experienced first hand the difference Myton Hospice makes to ensure nobody battles through cancer on their own.
So if you can support Myton by sponsoring Andrea it would be greatly appreciated. For details please go to www.justgiving.com/andreawilliams1 or pick up a sponsorship form at the Post Office or in St Peter’s Church. There will also be a collection box in The Granville as well as at the Post Office. Donations need to be submitted before the ride.

COMPOST AT HOME :
Warwickshire County Council is part of a nationwide "Compost at Home" campaign. The campaign encourages residents to transform their kitchen and garden waste into nutrient-rich compost for a blooming garden.
Residents are being encouraged to put their compostable kitchen and garden waste to good use by ordering one of the scheme’s subsidised compost bins. The Council have teamed up with WRAP (the Waste and Resources Action Programme) to provide the bins — along with a free guide to composting and a handy sticker highlighting what can and can’t go in — delivered direct to people’s doors.
The Warwickshire scheme will play its part in the nation-wide drive covering 6.5 million households across England and Scotland to promote the recycling of kitchen and garden waste and reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfill.
Nearly two thirds of kitchen and garden waste can be tipped straight in the compost bin. You might be surprised to discover that it’s not just fruit and vegetable peelings and prunings that can go in either — cardboard, eggshells and teabags make for great compost too. Composting means hugely cutting down on the amount of waste we put out for collection — not to mention a beautiful garden to enjoy as well.
WRAP is helping to provide Warwickshire residents with compost bins starting from £5, including delivery. People eager to start home composting should call 0845 073 2001 to order their bin.
A Home Composting Advisor is working closely with Warwickshire County Council. Local residents can call 0845 600 0323 for advice and information on home composting, or click to visit their website.
