Time Pilot

Question: What do the following
classic games all have in common:
Time Pilot,
Gyruss, Vulgus, 1942 and
1943, Final Fight, and Street Fighter 2..?
Answer: They were all the work of one man - namely Japanese game design guru Yoshiki Okamoto. Strangely enough Time Pilot was his first ever attempt at game design after initially joining Konami as a mere graphic artist - quite a debut seeing as it is, along with many of his other titles, a bonafide piece of gaming history. Find out why in a new and in-depth Rogues Gallery feature, with a very nice piece by Time Pilot fan Bodhisattva ably evoking the spirit of this arcade shoot-em-up classic.

Hi again! Long time no see! Well it's been a hectic week or two.. Firstly the Globalnet server on which this site is held went down last week resulting in no upload access to the site for over a week which was a bit of apain. Secondly Dave's Classics seems to be down yet again, but this time it seems it could be serious. Word is that Dave is having legal action taken against him by an unknown hardware manufacture.. and speculation is rife as to who this

could be. No-one seems to know anything concrete, and I along with many others await further developments with interest.

Only one new addition to the Rogues Gallery, but a very in-depth one looking at Konami's brilliant
Axelay on the Snes. This is the game that took the Gradius /Salamander format a step further.. but annoyingly we will probably never see a sequel. Sigh.. Cest la vie..

STOP PRESS! Daves Classics is now back on-line. Allegedly the problem was with Sony taking issue with the unconfirmed post of the PSX system bios on the site recently.. Things seem to be a little shaky (No FTP downloads) but otherwise OK..

Capcom Strikes Back!

Bit of a slow week really, spent most of it researching a Capcom Arcade Game Chronology (now up in the Rogues Gallery Capcom section) This involved playing again every single Capcom arcade game I could lay my hands on, and by golly there's a lot of them! It's a tough job but someone's got to do it.. I had a lot of fun revisiting some old favourites, as well as making a few discoveries, in particular 'Last Duel' - which is much better than I remembered, Three Wonders and Strider - old faves of mine, some reviews are on the cards I think, and the System 1 scrolling beat-em ups 'Cadillacs and Dinosaurs' and 'The Punisher', which I'd never really played properly before, and turned out to be enormous fun. Which is why I have not had as much sleep as I might have wanted as well, thanks a lot Capcom!.. But the upside is that the chronology I've come up with is as far as I know one of the most complete around. Look out for more additions to the Capcom section soon. Oh and Tiger Road and Bionic Commando are great games too eh?

Nemesis Crazy!

Anyone who grew up in the 80's frequenting their local arcade will have a soft-spot for Nemesis (or Gradius as it was known outside of Europe). It is certainly one of my all time faves, as well as being a hugely influential game..a true classic. I've done a nice Rogue's Gallery page on this great shooter, along with an info page on how to get yourself sorted for emulating Nemesis and other games in the series.. Check out the emu info here.. along with a nice collection of all available rom images for the whole Nemesis/Gradius series.

Capcom 1942 series

One of Capcom's most famous franchises in the 80's and early 90's was this great series of shooters. Check out a page which includes some of the cool original Capcom artwork, and is dedicated to the whole series here under the Rogues Gallery Capcom section.

Wed March 3rd

The Emulation section is now online with some roms for some of the games featured here so far. There is now the first part of the Biometal (Dezaemon) review online. I had a hard time researching this game, info was very thin on the ground, and I could find no reviews of the Snes version anywhere on the net! Why?! I seem to remember it being a reasonably high profile game, at least here in the UK. Very odd.. still I think I've rectified this by reviewing it! The rom will be online shortly for you to have a look at if you've never played the game, in the emulation section, and it is certainly well worth checking out if you are an anime shoot-em-up fan.

Mon Feb 22nd

Well as you can see the site is up and running now..kind of! There is obviously tons to be done though, I've got a good 50Mb of web-space to fill here! A new Messageboard is now active, please feel free to use it, and just try to ignore those pesky adverts. I've not been able to do as much work on the site as I would like, but basically it is pretty much complete in template form with all the features that I had hoped to include ready and waiting to be filled with lots of lovely content.

The Rogues Gallery section will be devoted to showcasing memorable games, game producers and of course game Bosses in an A-Z format. I hope it will become a nice section through which to browse and bring back a few memories of past gaming showdowns and fondly remembered bad guys.

The Reviews section is up and running with one review! ;) - a little look at an obscure but rather good Snes shoot-em-up called Wild Guns - check it out. I hope to build up a decent review archive as time goes by so bear with me! Personally I enjoy reviewing the less well-known titles and informing others about them. I do need some reviews of the more famous games though, if anyone would like to help me out with some reviews let yourselves be known! Likewise any comments, ideas etc would be appreciated, I'm always open to suggestions.

Well, plenty to do, better get back to the grindstone! I hope you like the look of the site in general, I have not been able to devote too much time to creating graphics for the site so things may still look a little raw, but rest assured I will get them done soon. Bye for now!
