One-Name Study.
| DOWNER | Non-ancestral. Several of the Sussex Downers moved to Lambeth. One was Stephen Downer (1842-95) who married Margaret DAVIES in 1870 and had six children at Lambeth. Stephen was born at Thakeham, Sussex.

| STARKINGS | Non-ancestral here. A relative, John Edmund Starkings (1867-?), had several children born at Guildford before moving back to Norfolk. A One-Name Study is in progress.

| WELLS | A maternal great-grandmother, Annie Sophia Wells (1870-1952) was born at Kingston-upon-Thames in 1870. She probably only spent a few months there, her family had moved to Brighton, Sussex by 1872, their whereabouts at the 1871 census weren't discovered until on-line indexes were available (thanks Steve). They turned out to be temporarily living at Rusper in Sussex, near to two of Annie's Wells relatives. Annie's parents were Thomas and Emma (née WOOD) who married at Croydon in 1869, Thomas was from Sussex.

| WOOD | My maternal great-great-great-grandparents James (1811-?) and Ann Wood lived at Croydon in 1851. They both claimed to have been born there but no marriage has been found for them there. Ann's surname might have been JONES which is no help in trying to find their marriage. They had one daughter, Emma (1841-1908), with them in 1851 but she was born at Ware, Hertfordshire. Her birth and/or baptism have not been found in Hertfordshire or Surrey. Emma married Thomas WELLS 1869 at Croydon.

| VALDER | Non-ancestral here, many of the so far unconnected branches moved to the Surrey parts of London. Several branches of my Kent VALDERs spent time in Lambeth and Southwark. My most recent VALDERs are from Sussex.
