    Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition that is associated with high blood sugar.   The body is unable to keep the blood sugar down to its normal level.   It can affect both young and older people alike.

It can be distressing, particularly when the only course of treatment is the use of daily injections of insulin.

Diabetes can present with a number of symptoms, and will usually have been diagnosed by a doctor.   The typical symptoms include thirst, with frequent and excessive urine production.

However, the symptoms may be more subtle, and can include tiredness, frequent infections, weight gain, and many others.   These more vague symptoms may often prompt the individual to seek alternative medical help rather than that of their conventional doctor, and practitioners should always be aware of the possibility of diabetes in those who present with these symptoms.

Left unrecognised and untreated the more severe forms of diabetes can lead to coma and even death, although this is unusual.

Conventional treatment is either with insulin injections (in type I diabetes, or insulin-dependent diabetes) or with medications to lower the level of sugar in the blood (in type II diabetes).   Insulin-dependent diabetes is usually found in children or early adulthood, whereas non insulin-dependent - or type II - diabetes is usually found in older adults or the elderly.

A proper diagnosis must be made, this can easily be established by the measurement of a blood sugar level.

If this is high, then the diagnosis of diabetes has been established.   However, normal levels does not necessarily exclude the possibility, as early cases may only present with 'impaired glucose tolerance.'   In these cases, high blood sugar levels may only be found after eating.

Sugar may also be found in the urine in diabetics, although this is not a foolproof test, as some diabetics do not have sugar in the urine, and some non-diabetics have sugar in the urine at times.   However, testing for sugar in the urine is simple and cost-effective, and may be used as a screening test in the Clinic.

Once the condition has been diagnosed correctly, your treatment should be closely supervised by a medical practitioner.   That is not to say that complementary and alternative medicine cannot help - it can be very effective in some cases in helping to maintain the condition and lower the levels of sugar in the blood and reduce the amount of medication needed to control the blood sugar.

    How Can We Help?

We offer a caring, alternative approach to your needs.

We specialise in Complementary & Alternative Medicine, and there are a number of approaches that can help.

Each person is dealt with individually. Each person’s needs are different. The actual treatment will vary from person to person.

There are a number of possible treatments that may be helpful in controlling the condition.

Following an initial assessment, or a free initial consultation (may not be available at some Clinics), a recommendation will be made regarding suitable tests or treatment.

    What Tests Do You Need?

A number of tests may be of benefit, including the following:

    • Full Body Screening
    • Vitamin and Mineral Test

We usually recommend a Vitamin and Mineral test for most of our patients, as vitamin or mineral deficiencies can contribute to many health problems.

It is not always necessary to carry out any tests in Diabetes, as it may be possible to obtain good relief from the symptoms with a number of approaches.

    What Advice Do You Get?

The actual advice given depends on the individual.

Dietary changes are always needed in diabetes, however these will be recommended and monitored by your medical advisors - doctors or dieticians.   However, there may be further advice that can be usefully given by a nutritional therapist or practitioner.

There are also a number of therapies and treatments that can help regulate the blood sugar levels in diabetics, and these may include nutritional, herbal and homoeopathic medicines, acupuncture, reflexology, and many others.

A comprehensive treatment programme – based on the therapies discussed above – is recommended during your consultations.

    How Successful Is Our Treatment?

Our treatment programmes are usually very successful.   We often succeed where others have failed.

The reason for this is due to the tests carried out – which enables us to tailor the treatments according to the specific needs of the individual – and also due to the experience we have gained over the years together with the efficacy of our unique, specialised products – herbal, homoeopathic and nutritional.

Most – if not all – of our patients have benefited from out treatment programmes.   Individual treatment programmes may be complex, and may need some commitment to follow successfully.   Dietary changes together with a number of supplements, herbal and / or homoeopathic medicines to take every day, together with weekly treatments may be required for a period of at least 10 – 12 weeks.

    How Much Does it Cost?

It is impossible to estimate the cost in any individual person, as the treatment recommended will vary from person to person.

The tests that may be required also vary in cost, and further information may be found together with information relating to each specific test.

The costs of individual therapies and products also differ, and you should refer to current price lists, or make enquiries at the Clinic.

We always offer a FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION, and further information regarding cost may be discussed at this time.

(Free consultations may not be available at all the Clinics we visit.)
