Stroke is a devastating condition associated with thrombosis or a clot in a blood vessel to the brain. It results in paralysis or weakness of the limb or limbs, sensory problems - such as impaired sensation, tingling or numbness - or visual disturbances or difficulty speaking or understanding speech.

A 'mini-stroke' or Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) is a stroke which resolves within 24 hours.

Once a true stroke has happened, there is irreversible damage to the part of the bain involved. Treatment is geared towards preventing any futher strokes.

The diagnosis is made by a careful history and examination.

Once the diagnosis is made, there are no particular drugs that are useful. However, drugs are prescribed to thin the blood, and to treat any underlying conditions such as hypertension or ischaemic heart disease or hypercholesterolaemia.

Each person is dealt with individually. Each person’s needs are different. The actual treatment will vary from person to person.

Although there is no way of reversing the damage that has been done, the underlying risk factors or conditions - such as high blood pressure, hypercholesterolaemia - should be dealt with in the appropriate way.

In addition, we feel that we should consider the holistic approach to the patient generally, and we should look at the whole condition of the person.

We therefore usually recommend a number of tests to evaluate the condition, and to exclude co-existing conditions.

Following an initial assessment, or a free initial consultation (may not be available at some Clinics), a recommendation will be made regarding suitable tests or treatment.

Full Body Screening

We recommend a Vitamin and Mineral test for most of our patients, as vitamin or mineral deficiencies can contribute to many health problems.

It is not always necessary to carry out any tests in stroke, as it may be possible to obtain good control of the condition with a number of approaches.

What Advice Do You Get?

The actual advice given depends on the individual.

The treatments recommended will depend on the underlying factors predisposing to the condition. Nutritional, herbal and homoeopathic medicines can be extremely useful. These may be used alongside conventional drugs very effectively.

A comprehensive treatment programme – based on the therapies discussed above – is recommended during your consultations.

How Successful Is Our Treatment?

Most – if not all – of our patients have benefited from out treatment programmes. Individual treatment programmes may be complex, and may need some commitment to follow successfully. Dietary changes together with a number of supplements, herbal and / or homoeopathic medicines to take every day, together with weekly treatments may be required for a period of at least 10 – 12 weeks.
