Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Multiple Sclerosis is a condition affecting the nervous system. It is characterised by a loss of the fatty layer around the nerve fibres, which leads to difficulty with the transmission of nervous impulses. This can affect both sensory and motor nerves, and can lead to symptoms such as numbness or tingling, lack of co-ordination, and weakness in the muscles. It can also affect the central nervous system, leading to difficulty with balance, vision, and many bodily functions. The course of the condition varies from person to person, and may be slowly progressive, or relapsing and remitting. The severity of the condition also varies, from very mild symptoms through to severe disability. There is no real treatment available from conventional medicine, although various approaches have been tried, such as steroid infusions during relapses, or interferon. These approaches are focused upon the inflammatory (or immune system) nature of the condition, and has no effect upon the nerve fibres themselves. How Can We Help?We offer a caring, alternative approach to your needs. We specialise in Complementary & Alternative Medicine, and there is much that can be done to help MS with this approach. Each person is dealt with individually. Each person’s needs are different. The actual treatment will vary from person to person. MS has been linked to a deficiency or imbalance in the essential fatty acid levels in the body, and some people improve with the use of these supplements. Another important consideration in MS is heavy metal toxicity. A link has been demonstrated between mercury poisoning (often from amalgam fillings in the teeth) and MS, and indeed NHS dentists are able to remove mercury amalgam and replace with inert fillings in patients with MS. We usually recommend a number of tests to evaluate the condition, and to assess in particular the nutritional status of the patient, and to exclude mercury poisoning. A number of therapies may be helpful, and although some benefits may result from Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine or Reflexology (amongst others) the most promising therapies are Electro-Magnetic Therapy and Bee Venom Therapy. Both of these therapies have well documented results in MS. Following an initial assessment, or a free initial consultation (may not be available at some Clinics), a recommendation will be made regarding suitable tests or treatment. IWe usually recommend a Vitamin and Mineral test for most of our patients, as vitamin or mineral deficiencies can contribute to many health problems. It is not always necessary to carry out any tests in MS, as it may be possible to obtain good relief from the symptoms with a number of therapies. However, because of the link between MS and essential fatty acid deficiency or mercury poisoning, we usually advise tests for these at least. What Advice Do You Get?The actual advice given depends on the individual. As we specialise in Complementary and Alternative Medicine, our treatments are based on this. The treatments recommended will depend on the results of any tests carried out. Nutritional, herbal and homoeopathic medicines may be useful. Because of the excellent results documented with Electro-Magnetic Therapy and Bee Venom Therapy these will usually be advised. A comprehensive treatment programme – based on the therapies discussed above – is recommended during your consultations. How Successful Is Our Treatment?Our treatment programmes are usually very successful. We often succeed where others have failed. The reason for this is due to the tests carried out – which enables us to tailor the treatments according to the specific needs of the individual – and also due to the experience we have gained over the years together with the efficacy of our unique, specialised products – herbal, homoeopathic and nutritional. Most – if not all – of our patients with MS have benefited from out treatment programmes. Individual treatment programmes may be complex, and may need some commitment to follow successfully. Dietary changes together with a number of supplements, herbal and / or homoeopathic medicines to take every day, together with weekly treatments may be required for a period of at least 10 – 12 weeks. Bee Venom Therapy may be advised for 6 months or more. How Much Does it Cost?It is impossible to estimate the cost in any individual person, as the treatment recommended will vary from person to person.
