Beating the Bounds, May Day 2005

Approaching 150 people, almost twice as many as last year, began the walk from St Peter’s. Others came for the lunch in church or walked during the afternoon. Clearly, the weather and favourable weather forecast beforehand played a big part.

As a result, the sum raised for church funds should exceed that collected in previous years, comfortably over £1000. In addition, gift aid forms should provide an added bonus. Grateful thanks to all who joined in, made donations or collected or paid sponsorship.

A special thanks to the many individuals who made the day possible: landowners who allowed us to cross land, who unlocked and relocked gates on the day; helpers who assisted with the waymark signs and with temporary bridges across ditches before and after the walk; the recorders of walkers’ names and money collectors; the road marshals who were on duty for so long as a result of the large numbers; all involved in the catering in the church; the boat crew who worked so long and hard to ferry everyone across the river; the providers of hospitality and refreshments on the route and those who headed the way from the church.
