BARFORD COMMUNITY WEBSITE POLICIES PUBLICATION OF MATERIAL The Barford Community Website has been developed as a service to residents of Barford, Sherbourne and Wasperton, and to anyone with an interest in the villages. It is designed to keep visitors up to date with information and events, and to provide articles and features of interest. It is intended to be used by anyone of any age-group who has an interest in the community. The website is non-commercial, not-for-profit, and is managed entirely by volunteers (the Barford Community Website Group, BCWG). Any individual or organisation may submit information for publication on the website, either directly to the BCWG or by other means as appropriate, e.g. by “signing” the guestbook. All contributed material is reviewed by the webmaster before being published. Any material that is considered by the webmaster to be inaccurate, inappropriate for the website, or unsuitable for children, is rejected. Whilst the BCWG takes all reasonable steps to ensure the accuracy of information on this website and presents it in good faith, it is provided purely for information and the BCWG disclaims all liability arising from negligence or otherwise in respect of such information. The information and articles published on this website may not necessarily reflect the opinion of the BCWG, or its members. Any comments or complaints received by the BCWG concerning published material will be reviewed and appropriate remedial action taken as quickly as possible. Please send any comments or complaints to the webmaster, using the “Contact Us” link which is available on every page of the web site. COPYRIGHT IDENTIFICATION OF CHILDREN Under no circumstances will this website publish personal details or names of children under 18 years old (which means first name, last name, or full name) accompanying a photograph of a child. Where consent has been obtained to publish photographs of children, a generalised label will be used to describe the photograph, e.g. football tournament at school fete. CONTENT LABELLING For your additional protection, this website is registered with the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA). ICRA is an international, independent organisation that empowers the public, especially parents, to make informed decisions about electronic media by means of the open and objective labelling of content. ICRA labelling is compliant with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Platform for Internet Content Selection (PICS) specification. The PICS specification enables labels (metadata) to be associated with Internet content. It was originally designed to help parents and teachers control what children access on the Internet, but it also facilitates other uses for labels, including code signing and privacy. The PICS platform is one on which other rating services and filtering software have been built. These include software such as Cyber Patrol and Net Nanny, and web directory services such as Yahooligans! PICS filtering capabilities are also built into Microsoft Internet Explorer and other popular web browsers. DATA PROTECTION The Barford Community Website Group is a not-for-profit organisation, and therefore is not required to register with the Information Commissioner under the terms of The Data Protection Act 1998.
