Far from the Madding Crowd, July 2005

Three performances by Barford Drama Group of "Far from the Madding Crowd", adapted by Matthew White from the Thomas Hardy novel, took place on the 14th, 15th and 16th July 2005.

After the cast had assembled in Bridge Street, they processed along Church Street to meet up with the waiting audience at the Village Hall where the production began inside. After the first few scenes, the action moved outside onto the Village Green.

The audience (about 50-60 each evening) moved around with the action as it moved from scene to scene to different locations on The Green. The play continued outside after the interval, then moved back inside the Hall for the final 20 minutes as the natural light faded.

This was the second outside production by Jan Bradley as producer/ director. In 2004, Dennis Potter’s "Blue Remembered Hills" was performed, also during very fine weather.

Thanks to David Winstone for the photos which were taken during the dress rehearsals and evening performances.
