SCARECROW WEEKEND, AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY 2008

For the second year in succession, August Bank Holiday weekend saw the village of Barford undergo two invasions. The first was by a large number of imaginatively dressed and lively looking people carefully and thoughtfully installed for the weekend around various houses in the village. The second was by an even larger number of visitors who came from far and wide to witness the event. Yes it was the second Barford Scarecrow weekend!

To enable this, a significant number of the locals were hard at work providing food and drink for the visitors, collecting money or generally being welcoming. It was once again a great event for bringing people in the village together and I would like to thank all who helped at the time and also those who helped in the lead-up to the event, including making the village look as smart as possible.

The best scarecrows were judged to be that of Beth and Seb Mattock on Wellesbourne Road as first, the victims (collectively) of the wave of vicious murders in Midsomer Rylands, second and the Girl on a Swing at Cedar House, third.

Thanks also to those who made special efforts to raise extra funds by their own efforts for the Church and the Shop, by making things such as friendship bracelets to sell or holding a garage sale, etc. The Church will have benefitted to the tune of some £3200! Fantastic - and it was great fun as well!
