5192894 Private, 70th (Young Soldiers) Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. Died on Sunday 26 April 1942. Age 18. The son of Herbert and Emily Pumfrey, of Barford. This battalion, formed from the Young Soldiers’ Companies of the 8th Battalion in 1940, was a home service battalion, and was disbanded in 1942, when the invasion threat became less. Buried in the Barford (St. Peter) New Churchyard, Barford, England. He is also commemorated on a Memorial Screen, St. Peter’s Church, Barford.
