Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) originated in China around 4,000 years ago. It is a system of medicine that is based on Acupunture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.

TCM is a completely different way of looking at the body in health and disease to the western orthodox approach. Often conditions will be described in terms of heat, damp, cold, and so on. Treatments will be geared towards elimination of cold and damp, or cooling when there is too much heat, and so on.

The traditional theories include the five elements, yin and yang, and other unorthodox approaches. It is sad that many acupuncturists (western acupuncturists mainly) do not follow these more traditional approaches in their work.

TCM is often used in our Clinic in combination with other therapies, including nutritional supplements, homoeopathic medicines, and so on.

TCM is used in deciding upon Acupuncture treatment, or in the use of some herbal medicines.
